MOHAMMAD SAYS FEMALE PILOTS ARE PIONEERS

Al Ain: Yesterday, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the
graduation ceremony of pilot officer trainees, including the first female pilots from the
Khalifa Air College in Al Ain.
He presented certificates and prizes to the graduates, congratulated them and wished
them success. He told the female pilots to rise to the challenge, saying that they are
pioneers in their field among UAE women.
Salma said: "I was studying to be a nurse, but something just didn't feel right. I just could
not find real enthusiasm for what I was doing and that made studying to become better
hard work. It made me stop and look at life and I decided to follow my childhood dream of
becoming a pilot. I am confident and hard-working and I have found a passion in life
again."
Aisha wanted to become a pilot after being a passenger in a plane at the Al Ain air show.
She said: "I loved being up in the sky and knew instantly that I wanted to become a pilot.
My family is so proud of what I am doing."
To finish the Etihad pilot programme and become a first officer co-pilot, a student must
complete 930 hours in the classroom and 205 hours of flying.
Salma said: "It is going to be the best job in the world being on top of the world."
