Primacy of Change

With the occasion of my participation at the Primacy of Change artistic encounter that takes place between the 5 and 11 of November 2011 I would like to make a brief exposition on the idea of social art, the permaculture approach to art and to share some ways to get inspiration from nature based on my recent personal experiences as on the interests that happened to cross my way during the last months. The further proposition, it is a consequence of the moment, the place, the people, the environment, randomness and me. Even if the approach is theoretical the only purpose of is a good social artistic experience. When good means successful for all parts.

About Art and Social Art

No art as social but social art as kind of art like for abstract art or for surrealistic art. Art can have a social function. My personal approach to art is its social nature. The social group, the moment and the place define the action, and so it does art. In the case of a painter this moment would be when his painting is showed to the public. Without a public there is no art. Art as a vehicle to create and reinforce boundaries. And on this idea of reinforcing boundaries I would like to propose a Permacultural approach to Art.

Permaculture and Art

Following the previous idea of art as vehicle to create social links and based on my recent participation on a two weeks Permaculture Design Course (aka PDC) I will try to use the permacultural approach to art and the idea of creating collectively. First of all: Permaculture is not just organic gardening but the design of a sustainable environment and most of all it is about, working together and not alone (alone we go fast, together we get far); look at nature/environment, learn from it; give yourself time to observe the place without judging, just noting the facts, then later you can try to understand what those facts mean; giving always something in return and the 20/80 law, it has been observed that in nature a 20% of what is obtained is reverted to the environment, imagine an artistic association, where there are dancers, singers, performers, virtual artists that give a 20% of their gain to the association they belong to; leave a wild part from which getting inspiration and copy it (I think Nadine space is a good example of it); leave the place better than you found it, improve it;

Requirements for a Permacultural approach

taking the positive input from everyone, ignoring the negative;

find what you are good at not just that, find what makes you vibrate, your niche like your ecological niche, what comes easily from you that is good for the others; dont talk about YOU but about what you can do for the project, your past is not of interest the interest is the common project and often lots of energy are put on revisiting own experiences; the why not me? attitude, if you find your proposition interesting, put it in place, dont wait for someone else to do it; http://www.kangaroots-permaculture.com/ (EN/FR) http://www.permacultureinternationale.com/ (FR)

Finding Fundings
I heard recently someone saying that the production of your project is also part of the creative process, and I agree. How difficult it seems, looking for funds is a very, very, very creative part of the artist job and needs to be taken in account as such. So following that idea and with the inspiration of a Spanish initiative of an open library of free copyright books (bookcamping.cc) that I came across these days and that is being funded through the crowdfunding company called goteo.org i prepared a list of crowdfunding companies that work online.

Crowdfunding
Sources of Inspiration
This is tough task now, I want to relate some personal experiences with the written above and besides myself, I do not really see any point in common. Prior to a nice discussion on science-art similarities and differences that happened a couple of days ago after having lunch with other participants at the Primacy of Change encounter a thought came to me on how Science and Art have the same reality in common but differ on its

relative position to it. While Art diverges from reality in different directions those of the artists and those of the observers, Science converges by interpretation of the same reality. The last ten months have been for me a hectic info bombing. Starting in February 2011 till today, an immense quantity of information has been crossing my way, in most of the cases with astonishing serendipity. One of those threads, was the experience of Permaculture which was full of practical and positive inputs. Other where not less interesting but yes less practical, and it is really in those Id like to focus on this point as those are the ones that stimulate my imagination the most. Although scientists know that all electrons in the universe spin they have never discovered the source of this spin. Rodin has. He has discovered the underpinning geometry of the universe, the fabric of time itself. He has done this by reducing all higher mathematics calculus, geometry, scalar math to discrete-number mathematics. "With the introduction of Vortex-Based Mathematics you will be able to see how energy is expressing itself mathematically. This math has no anomalies and shows the dimensional shape and function of the universe as being a toroid or donut-shaped black hole. This is the template for the universe and it is all within our base ten decimal system!" I rather prefer constructive art or science than a destructive one, but for those who like to see a beautiful theory dismounted you can always count with the work of the Skeptics, at http://skeptools.wordpress.com/2008/10/27/long-tail-of-skeptical-web/ and http://www.skeptic.com/
