SCENARIO: Lauren Lisa Jacko is a fifteen year old student of a Christian secondary school, who has been having problems at home. Lauren believes that her parents do not understand her and are controlling. Lauren has asked her clique at school to refer to her as Lolo or Darkholer. Lauren lost her virginity a year ago and has been indulging in indiscriminate and unprotected sexual activities with both genders. Lauren is the second child of two who comes from an upper middle class family. Her father is a part-time pastor and police superintendant and her mother is a bank manager, both are workaholics and perfectionists. Her older sister was a contestant in several regional beauty pageants and has always been an A student who is now pursuing a PhD in law. Lauren grades have dropped, and she often sneaks out of the house to attend parties and engage in sexual escapades. Lauren has lately been having severe itching in her genital area. Her lifestyle has incited the interest of her peers. Word of her activities has gotten around the school and has caught the attention of one of her teachers who is invested in her welfare. SCENE ONE1 Lauren is at home with her parents. They are preparing to go to work and she is preparing to go to school. She brings her recent test paper to them. Lauren: Mammy look my test paper. Mother: Lauren I m too busy, give it to your father. Father: Margaret, I don t have to work too? Lauren let me have a quick look. Father looks at paper Father: what is this? Why is your mark 75, why is it not 95? You are not working hard enough, why can t you be more like your sister? You know what? You are not praying enough, God helps those who help themselves. It seems reading the bible not helping you so I will have to beat you with it. Go and get the bible for me. Lauren goes and gets the bible and is then beaten several times. Father: tonight I want you to read the book of john and when you finish go and study.

SCENE TWO2 Ms. Andrews calls Lauren after class to discuss her falling grades. Ms. Andrews: Lauren can I talk to you for a minute? I realize that your grades are dropping and I m concerned. I want to help you by giving extra classes or any tutoring you need. Did you have any trouble understanding what we did today? Lauren: yes miss Ms.Andrews: ok, well come to my office this afternoon so I explain to you. Lauren: ok miss.

Outside Lauren s friends are waiting for her. Milk: baby we meeting up later?

Woody: tonight is my turn Milk: no last night was your turn, remember? Woody: yes but her parents had her on lock down, so we couldn t meet up. SCENE THREE 3 Lauren is at home, her parents are arguing and fighting, she sneaks out of the house and meets Woody. Mother: you love your bible more than me, Emmanuel. You are a horrible and selfish lover! Father: probably I would be a better lover Margaret, if your cooking was better, everything is always my fault! Mother: Emmanuel you are never interested in me; you never even ask a question about my day. Father: probably I would if you talked less. If talking too much was a crime Margaret, I would have arrested you already.

Mother: how dare you, you rent a cop?! You can sleep on the sofa tonight with your precious bible. Father: at least my bible will be silent. How a wife should be!

SCENE FOUR 4 Lauren is in school the next day. She did not keep her meeting with Ms. Andrews who is listening to some children discussing Lauren s sex life. Ms. Andrews leans forward: Lauren I m sure you have been hearing the rumours around school and some of the things the children have been saying about you. Lauren: yes miss.

Ms. Andrews: Anything you want to tell me Lauren? You know you can talk to me about anything right Lauren? Anything you want to. Lauren does not answer Ms. Andrews: how are things at home? Lauren: my parents always fighting and they doesn t even care about me. Ms. Andrews: have you talked to them about it? Lauren: No, but they always so busy Ms. Andrews notices Lauren fidgeting: Lauren are you ok? You have been fidgeting since you came into my office. Lauren: it s nothing just an Ants bite. Ms. Andrews: since when did the ants bite you? Lauren: a few days ago. Ms. Andrews: you need to have it looked at Ok? I know a nurse who could help you. Is that ok? Can I call her? Lauren: ok miss Ms. Andrews: Hello? Good morning Nurse Green? Yes I m sending a student over to you, her name is Lauren Jacko. Ms. Andrews: so I told her you re coming, she waiting at the health center for you. Lauren: ok miss.

SCENE SIX 6 Nurse Green: hello Lauren, good morning. My name is Nurse Green Lauren: good morning nurse Nurse Green: Ms. Andrews told me that an ant bit you. Is that really what happened? Lauren: no Nurse Green: ok, but I m going to have to examine you to see what wrong. Is that ok with you?

Lauren: it s ok. Nurse examines Lauren. Nurse: Lauren based on my assessment I found out that you have pubic lice. I will need to do some further investigations with consent from you and your parents, is that okay with you? Lauren: yes Nurse Green: Lauren Are you sexually active? Lauren: yes nurse Nurse Green: do you use protection when having sex? Lauren: sometimes, not really Nurse Green: Are your parents aware that you are having sex? Lauren: no, I don t think so. So I will see you all then. SCENE SEVEN7 Lauren and her parents are meeting the nurse at the health center to have a family counselling session.

Nurse Green: Good Morning Mr. and Mrs. Jacko. Mr. Jacko: is it a good morning? I did not realize. Nurse Green: After talking to me on the phone do you know why you are here this morning? Mr. Jacko: It seems Lauren has turned herself into a harlot and a heathen; she has rejected God s teaching, and has let the devil in. Mrs. Jacko: I have no idea what is wrong with Lauren. Nurse Green: As a teenager, Lauren is in the Identity versus role confusion stage according to Erik Eriksson. Therefore she needs love and belonging... Mr. Jacko: so what you mean is that Lauren does not get love and belonging at home? Is that what you re saying? Mrs. Jacko: what you mean love? What is that thing? She has computer, Xbox, mp3, Iphone, TV, what more can she need? Nurse Green: yes she has all these material things but she needs support and to identify with persons she can learn from, positive individuals and positive youth that will help her build a sense of who she is. Mr. Jacko: Nonsense Nurse Green: I advise that she is placed on contraceptives and birth control; because you all are informed that she has contracted pubic lice. And if her bad sexual habits continue she might contract much worse diseases or may become pregnant. Mr. Jacko: I guess we have to choose the lesser of two evils. Ok, ok, give her the condoms before she get pregnant and drag my family s name down the drain. Mrs. Jacko: Her sister would never do something like this. Mr. Jacko: sexually active plus pubic lice? Nurse Green: Mr and Mrs. Jacko, I suggest that you improve your level of communication with Lauren, because I believe that her sexual misbehaviours may be as a result of the poor communication and lack of feelings of love and belonging in your family. Mrs. Jacko: I guess I will have to see what I can do. Nurse Green: thank you very much for coming; I would like to see you again so we can continue to work through your problems to make your family a more cohesive unit.
