the context of freedom of conscience. Faithful dissemination of information from our faiths perspective to the next generation is a responsibility of charity. Pursuit of happiness is our hope, the promised outcome of living faith, the resurrection. Training our young to be faithful and productive citizens is important as our aging culture confuses freedom of religion with prohibition of religious liberty. Our freedom of conscience is from God, and its importance is a core Christian value and reality that was never intended to be oppressed by those who first dreamed the American dream. This week we celebrate our long established history, both locally and nationally, of our Catholic values-added education. We should all be proud of our Catholic schools and faith formation programs that provide intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical, and social values for our students. Here at Guardian Angels, we have a classic school with modern technology. Many have shared talent and treasure for the benefit of for our school: our parents, our teachers, our staff, and our parishioners. We are in constant pursuit of our students common good the success of Guardian Angels School is a top priority. Our students are a fine group; I am proud of them. They are our future. We have many balanced and happy students preparing to be productive and faithful Americans; we need to spread the word that teaching in perspective of Catholic values is a good value.

Students from our school are participating in this weekends liturgies to emphasize the beginning of Catholic schools week. This annual event celebrates our elementary schools, secondary schools, and Catholic educational programs throughout the country. Americas founding fathers deliberately based our constitution upon the values of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Even though these ideals clearly represent Christian values, they were being contradicted throughout the world. Hostile divisions in religion and government oppression were a harsh reality that many of the new settlers fled, and this motivated their deliberate intention to enable religious liberty and citizen-controlled government. The idea of deliberate and intentional citizen control of government with individual freedom of conscience stimulated a world-wide hope for people experiencing oppression or cultural stagnation. The stunning widespread of diversity was a new experience for most of the new immigrants reaching our shores. As they assimilated into the American culture, they wanted to maintain a connection to their heritage. The early Catholics tended to see themselves as national congregations (German Catholics, Irish Catholics, French Catholics, etc.). Generational inter-marriages started the breakdown of the ethno-centric faith and a diversity of nationalities encountered common ground in their Catholic faith. During this process, Catholic schools began to emerge with the help of religious orders, dedicated lay people, and parish support. Parish schools prepared students to be productive citizens and to follow the way toward Gods Kingdom, the common good. We are blessed to live in a country whose expressed primary values of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness- they resonate with Christian values. Pursuit of life involves pursuit of its nourishment rather than its downfall or depravation. Pursuit of liberty involves trusting Gods gift of free will. We honor our God-given and professed American value of religious liberty in full understanding that it is in

Unforgettable, compelling, inspirational... These are the words the confirmation students used to describe the Net Ministries Teen Mass they attended. Ninth and tenth graders were welcomed to the event with passion, energy and rock music. They attended mass with 1,100 others and then divided into groups to learn what it means to be a man or a woman of God. Here are some of the top quotes from their reflections papers!

On Friday, February 3rd, (during the 9:20 a.m. childrens school Mass) we will have blessing of throats. Please join us!

You have to allow God to help you make the right decisions. It was a wake-up call that some of the decisions we make will destroy our relationships with others and with God. We need to be men of God, and we need to serve Him. Jesus is here to help us, and we are here to serve Him. We need to say Yes to Gods plan for us. Trust God because he is always there for you. We all have our own gifts that God has given us, and it is our job to use these gifts to impact others.

The World Day of the Sick - Saturday, February 11. There will be an Anointing of the Sick for anyone wishing to be anointed during the 9:20 a.m. Mass at Auburn Manor and after the 5:00 p.m. Mass at Guardian Angels Angels.
Excerpts from the message of the Holy Father on THE WORLD DAY OF THE SICK

Stand up and go; your faith has saved you

The encounter of Jesus with the ten lepers, narrated by the Gospel of Saint Luke, and in particular the words that the Lord addresses to one of them, Stand up and go; your faith has saved you, helps us to become aware of the importance of faith for those who, burdened by suffering and illness, draw near to the Lord. In their encounter with him they can truly experience that he who believes is never alone! God, indeed, in his Son, does not abandon us to our anguish and sufferings, but is close to us, helps us to bear them, and wishes to heal us in the depths of our hearts. From a reading of the Gospels it emerges clearly that Jesus always showed special concern for sick people. He not only sent out his disciples to tend their wounds but also instituted for them a specific sacrament: the Anointing of the Sick. The Letter of James attests to the presence of this sacramental act already in the first Christian community by the Anointing of the Sick, accompanied by the prayer of the elders. The whole of the Church commends the sick to the suffering and glorified Lord so that he may alleviate their sufferings and save them; indeed she exhorts them to unite themselves spiritually to the passion and death of Christ so as to contribute thereby to the good of the People of God. In the Anointing of the Sick, the sacramental matter of the oil is offered to us, so to speak, as Gods medicine, which now assures us of his goodness, offering us strength and consolation, yet at the same time points beyond the moment of the illness towards the definitive healing, the resurrection. As regards the sacraments of healing, Saint Augustine affirms: God heals all your infirmities. Do not be afraid, therefore, all your infirmities will be healed You must only allow him to cure you and you must not reject his hands These are precious instruments of Gods grace which help a sick person to conform himself or herself ever more fully to the mystery of the death and resurrection of Christ. The Eucharist, received at a time of illness, contributes in a singular way to working this transformation, associating the person who partakes of the Body and Blood of Christ to the offering that he made of himself to the Father for the salvation of all. To Mary, Mother of Mercy and Health of the Sick, we raise our trusting gaze and our prayer; may her maternal compassion, manifested as she stood beside her dying Son on the Cross, accompany and sustain the faith and the hope of every sick and suffering person on the journey of healing for the wounds of body and spirit!

To the worlds finest volunteer receptionists! You are the welcoming face and voice to all who enter or call the parish office. If you would like to join our group of 25 volunteer receptionists please call Sandy Montague at 952-448-3135. Training is provided.

Separation and divorce interrupt individual and family stories. Expectation and dreams are changed. In addition to all other decisions, it can be crucial to face shattered dreams in order to move forward, whatever the circumstances.
