FALSE PROPHETS, TRUE PROPHETS

In Deuteronomy today we hear that Gods very words will fill the mouth of a true prophet, but a false prophet will, in a manner of speaking, put mere mortal words into Gods mouth. In Marks Gospel, we see Jesus teaching and healing as a true Thursday, February 2, 2012 prophet, one filled with the authority of Gods own Presentation of the Lord voice, the Holy One of God. 6:30 - For the Sick of our Parish The whole history of our church is filled with 7:30 - For the Parishioners both true and false prophets. But in todays Gospel 8:30 - Anthony Lonski we learn that Jesus fame spread because he taught - Thomas OHalloran with authority; he wasnt an authority because he 12:00PM - Special Intention (Polish Mass) was popular or famous. We also learn from him, in 7:00PM - For the Parishioners his desert temptation confrontations with Satan, that First Friday, February 3, 2012 anyone can quote scripture, even against Gods purSt. Blase poses. And today we hear that his authority was not 6:30 - Purgatorial Society, Michael Oprondek, - Sr. Genevieve Paprocki 19th Anniv. of Death like that of the scribes, who held the official positions of religious authority in his day. The psalmist 6:00PM - Stanislawa, Ignacy & Adela Prezydent tells us how to do this: by not hardening our hearts Saturday, February 4, 2012 when God speaks. If we truly listen to God, it will be 7:30 - For the Parishioners Gods very words filling our mouths. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

2012 Archdiocesan annual Catholic Appeal Be Imitators of Christ!

Thank you to all who have responded to the mailing from Cardinal George. We are still two weeks away from the in-pew request. If you received the mailing and have not responded, please take advantage of this time to do so. In addition to providing for ministries and services throughout the Archdiocese, the Appeal also funds services that are of great help to other ministries here in our parish. For example, Appeal funds support Catholic Religious Education through grants and scholarships as well as formation of lay ministers and deacons, and on-going formation of priests. This year, the theme of the Appeal is: Be Imitators of Christ. We are all challenged to try to live our lives using the life of Christ as an example. Christ gave us the path to eternal life. His love for each of us cannot be taken lightly. As we contemplate His gifts to us, we should also reflect on our gratitude for these gifts. Your financial support for the work our parish, of our Archdiocese and of the Church throughout the world is, in fact, one way to express this gratitude. Please give generously to the 2012 Annual Catholic Appeal. When our parish reaches its goal in paid pledges, 100% of the additional funds received will be returned to us for use in our parish. Your generous support is greatly appreciated.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Forty days after Christmas, this weeks ancient feast of the Presentation of the Lord is an extension of the shining days of Christs coming into the depths of winter. This is the day when, for a thousand years, the Church has blessed a years supply of candles. In many places, a procession forms outside the church. The core memory is of Simeon and Annas meeting with the infant Jesus and his parents outside the temple on the fortieth day after the childs birth, and the delight of going to the table of the Lord for the Eucharist, a foretaste of our final meeting with Christ. For some Christians, today is known as The Meeting, suggesting not only the encounter in the temple, but also our assembly at the Lords table and our longing for the kingdom. One story suggests that the commotion made by so many candle-bearing, hymn-singing faithful in the wintry fields of Germany on their joyful way to Mass stirred the badger from hibernation to examine this promise of springtime. The interrupted nap of the groundhog is amazingly linked to the light of Christ driving away the shadows of the worlds darkness. This beautiful feast only rarely falls on a Sunday. What better reason could there be for candles at dinner tonight?
