Importance of English Most widely learned second language in the world Working knowledge of English is essential. Spoken as first language by as many as 380 million people Extensively used in public or private sector in more than 100 countries

Communication According to Camp and Satterwhite (2002), there are three types of communication:

Communication through mouth. Forms of oral communication include :

Face to face communication Telephone communication Speeches Informal rumours Broadcasted audios and videos

Exchange knowledge, information, feelings, and meanings through verbal and non -verbal messages. The characteristics are:
One individual to another Face -to-face Form and the content of the communication reflect the

personal characteristics of the individuals as well as their social roles and relationships

Small Group Communication


At least 3 members and at the maximum around 12 to 15 members A professional group, an educational group, social group or emergent group Motivated by task concerned Motivated by interpersonal attraction to other group members Capable of producing higher quality work and better decisions

Public Communication

Sending and receiving of messages on a large scale that impacts large groups of people To inform, educate, entice, persuade and inspire the audience Public speaking in any form is considered public communication The successful delivery of a message to a large group of people where each individual is influenced to take action The statements must be generic and neutral to gender, race and religious beliefs

Always assume Straightforward, honest and
