In my placement, my cooperating teacher provided a week-long lesson on the Gilded Age. While this era encompasses two decades, my coop did a good job of outlining the major industrial, technological, political, and social transformations that took place during this period. Along with this, she stressed the political and labor corruption that emerged through these changes in American society. Although the United States was successfully recovering from the Civil War at this time, the government was very susceptible to crooked politicians, unfair labor policies, as well as racial and gender discrimination. The rapid economic and population growth would lead to severe moral, social, and political

problems that would need to be addressed. To continue in a chronological order, I continued on from this period to introduce the Progressive Era and how this period sought to address the social, industrial, and political flaws that preceded this era. In addition, I will focus the instruction on how this period was an effort to purify American society and include more members in democracy. Lastly, through the use of videos, primary, and secondary sources, I hope to project the social atmosphere of corruption as well as the feel-good period of the Roaring Twenties and the consequences it had on the progressive goals.
