Yr Level: Transition Unit Title: Feelings! Term 3, 2011 Duration: 8 weeks (Wk 2 10)
Unit Descriptor: Feelings! is an introductory Drama unit which explores how our bodies express emotion. Using storytelling as a key teaching tool, students will learn to identify the physical and vocal indicators for 4 main emotions happiness, sadness, anger and surprise. After identifying these indicators, students will spend time expressing each emotion, learning to switch quickly from one emotive state to another. Finally, students will present a short performance piece showcasing an emotion of their choosing.
Essential Learning Outcomes: Cr1: Uses imagination and a variety of resources for self-expression and to explore ideas and situations for the insights and opportunities they offer. Essential Learning Indicators:
Cr1: Learners demonstrating evidence of Key Growth Point 3 express imagination through play, visual and performing arts, leisure and recreation activities explore and respond to different objects and materials using the senses experiment with resources to create a product or performance, eg box construction, sculpture, print making, music rendition participate in class singing activities and oral recitals of poetry, rhyme and jingles explore attributes, features and potential uses of materials, eg mixing different coloured paints participate in a range of activities to explore situations/ideas, eg explore shapes and patterns in the environment and through own drawings hypothesise results of experiments, eg What will happen if...?
Outcomes:
CrA KGP3.1 y use play, imagination and sensory experiences as the basis for sharing their ideas and feelings through selfexpression.
Indicators:
Drama y y act out a variety of roles in different play situations enact known stories using voice and body movements, eg Billy Goats Gruff, Tikki Tikki Tembo select objects in their environment to enhance their play and improvisations participate in creative activities in all forms of play, eg dramatise all or part of a story, poem, rhyme, song or movie through fantasy play.

When the music stops, make the shape the teacher calls out with your body. Develop the activity by freezing in role. 2. Going to the Students sit in a circle. Two students at a time stand in the centre. Assign roles: eg, dentist and patient. Ask students to show us the scene. Side coach by offering things to say or things to do. 3.
