CV Drafting Guidelines 1. Visual Layout: We recommend that you arrange the information in a more focused manner.

Please make sure the CV fits into three pages and reduce all margins on the left and right hand not to exceed 1-1.5 cm same goes for top and bottom margins. 2. Career Objective - Your career objective so that describes what you want to do and what you bring to the organization. Employers are interested in what you can for them, not a list of job titles you have previously held. Your objective statement should ideally highlight your career level, years of experience, position sought, target company/sector and not more than three of your top skills. Below is a sample objective statement that may fit into your CV. [For Eg - A Computer Engineer with an excellent academic record and demonstrated expertise in database management systems and software development seeking a challenging position with a dynamic organization to contribute accrued skills in achieving organizational objectives and charting a mutually beneficial growth path.] Such a focused career objective captures your top merits, summarizes your qualifications and strengths and is likely to interest an employer into reading further into your CV as opposed to a general statement. Employers are interested in what you can do for them, and what you can bring into their organization, not a vague objective. 3. Experience Do not include any responsibility on your CV that you wont want to do again. Try and work up results from what you have done in each position and add details to the items you want to highlight to employers. y Break your ideas down into specific points. Use bullet points to separate each job duty/responsibility. Incomplete, vague sentences and long lists of duties will not communicate your strengths and potential to an employer. Action verbs are key. Use of action verbs to start sentences. We recommend that you always use action verbs to describe your responsibilities, achievements and projects managed. If you are listing current responsibilities, make sure you talk in the present tense, however, always use the past tense to talk about responsibilities and achievements that you have already completed in the past. (see below) Highlight your achievements first in every job. In your achievements, make sure you demonstrate responsibility, accomplishment and results. Since you are building on your past experience, you need to think about what you can bring into an organization and how you can demonstrate your abilities and transferable skills. In terms of formatting, within each experience, you can separate achievements from responsibilities with headers titled Achievements and Responsibilities. Employ the so what? method. When mentioning your responsibilities and achievements, use what experts call the so what? method. If you can justify the value of your accomplishment, then keep it, if not remove it. Quantify your experience. Indicate the size/volume of the organization you worked for, and your possible contribution terms of projects you worked on. Employers attentions gravitate to numbers because they help employers understand and visualize the kind of impact you can make on their organization.

Usually you can create multiple online CVs and cover letters, editing the content to suit the job you are applying for and highlight you strengths and potential for that particular job. If you are looking for a management position then you should manage your content to reflect and stress the strengths and experience relevant to that post. 4. Skills . Make sure your skills section is comprehensive and reflective of your extensive background in your core skills. [For Eg - warehouse management systems, database management systems, application analysis and project management.]

5. Spelling and Grammar - Pay particular attention to spelling and grammar. Spelling mistakes and typos
immediately put off employers from scanning the rest of your CV. Please use capital letters in respective areas like your name on the CV.

6. Education This section should state your academic progression in chronological order from the most recent first to the past. Mention only the pertinent courses; you do not need to mention the course contents pertinent to each of the same. Useful CV Writing Tips: Specifically for your online CV; in order to increase the probability of your CV being viewed by all potential employers utilizing online jobsites. y In your online CV, make sure you fully complete all the sections, and list as many relevant skills and industry keywords as possible in order to increase the chances of having your CV searched by employers. Position Sought - Target your position sought. Position Sought is one of the most important sections of the Online CV Builder. When hiring managers search for CVs online, they often look at the Position Sought first to decide whether to view a CV or not. These keywords will help employers target your CV easily and quickly in a search. The Skills Section play a major role in enhancing the search ability of a CV We recommend you keep the salary field blank. Once you get the interview, this is an area you can discuss. We always recommend having 2 identical CVs one with a salary field filled and one without one. This will allow your CV to be searched and found by employers who search CVs with salaries as well as those who do not want to be limited here. In order to add more value to your Online CV and optimize your job search, we recommend that you also write a cover letter with every job application. This will help you summarize your extensive experience and shed more light on your strengths and potential. Cover letters are great ways to capture the employers attention in a few lines.
