Its materials, interior and exterior design, assembly, touch, and tuning all meet the very highest concert grand piano standards. models, having an expert piano tuner tune it to the finest possible condition, then sampling all sounds from this single piano. During the process of creating its sound, we listened to many pianists and took ample time to refine a sound that is natural to performers. This means that each note has a crisp startup, and the overall sound has excellent balance, and is clear, solid and focused. Our obsession with perfecting the Clavinova sound extended to sampling length. A long time passes from the moment the sound of a grand piano begins until it gradually diminishes and disappears, and this helps to create a deep, rich resonance. Clavinova achieves the same type of resonance by using extra-long sound samples. AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling meticulously samples up to five levels, including delicate changes. iAFC (instrumental Active Field Control), which applies Yamahas advanced acoustic technology to reproduce a pianos feeling of depth and expansiveness, and even the complex sound nuances heard when dampers mute vibrating strings, ensures that the sound is truly piano-like to the ears of accomplished pianists. Try playing a familiar piece. Youll hear a true piano sound that reflects Yamahas long musical heritage.

Microphones pick up the sound produced by the Clavinova, as well as the internal sound. These signals are processed and the sound is emitted from speakers on the back to create stereo resonance with a feeling of depth.

With the ideal feel between fingers and keyboard, you can transform your intentions directly into sound.
The motion of each key is transmitted through a mechanism called an action, causing a hammer to strike a string, thus creating a sound that faithfully reproduces the pianists playing intentions. Using our extensive expertise in building these actions, as well as input from pianists, our goal was to make Clavinovas that are as pleasant to play and also provide the expressive power of grand pianos. There are more than 200 strings inside a grand piano. The strings on the treble side are slender and short; on the bass side they become thicker and longer, and the hammers become larger. That is why when a pianist plays a grand piano, the treble keys feel light and the bass keys feel heavy. Our goal was to faithfully reproduce the touch of a grand piano, even subtle differences in the keys weight and return. We accomplished this with the Clavinova GH (Graded Hammer) keyboard. We also perfected the subtle timing of the movement of the hammers and dampers, so the same sound can be played continuously without fully restoring the key: a grand piano performance technique. This is made possible by Yamahas original Damper Sensor, which is the third sensor in our GH3 (Graded Hammer 3) keyboard (most electronic piano keyboards have two sensors). As a result, you can use techniques only possible on grand pianos, such as having successive notes blend smoothly even without pressing the damper pedal, and playing the same key rapidly

From pianissimo to fortissimo. Subtle expressiveness by varying your keystroke strength.

Sounds are sampled according to keystroke strength at more than 10 levels for each key. AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling analyzes these samples and selects three to five levels* that best match the Clavinova keyboard movement. This enables you to directly transmit the delicate movements of your fingertips into sound.

CLP models provide a variety of other instrument sounds for you to play, including organ, electronic piano, strings, and more. These keys have a good texture that gives the GH3 and NW keyboard a luxurious feel. They are made using material with excellent moisture absorption, almost equal to that of an ivory keyboard of a concert grand piano, which improves playability by preventing your fingers from slipping.

Key-Off samples provide the delicate sound keys make when they are released. Stereo Sustain samples recreate the resonances of strings and soundboard when the damper pedal is pressed. Pure CF Sampling gives CVP models a piano sound with superb tonal response and faithfulness to the original sound. They also benefit from AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling, which samples sounds at up to five levels*3 according to keystroke strength, allowing the expression of delicate sound nuances. Press this button to go to Yamahas special IDC website, which is packed with information, yet offers easy navigation via the jog dial. The display shows you how to make the internet connection. The initial setting is simplified because it shows you the best method for your connection environment.

You can hear demo performances of the sounds of various instruments and also get introductions to the Clavinova and its basic functions.

Songs
The CVP and CGP Series has an internal library of 120* famous songs with rhythmic backing and accompaniment. Play as you listen, or just use them as background music. Connect to the internet and access data for more than 10,000 other songs.

Voices Music Finder

When you are unsure about the Voice and Style to use for a certain song, just press the Music Finder button. It chooses the appropriate settings according to the song title. Organ Flutes
These special voices give you the vintage organ sound heard in Jazz, Blues, Rock and Gospel music. Onscreen virtual Tone Bars allow individual footages to be adjusted, with separate controls for Vibrato and Rotary Speaker effects, just like a traditional electronic organ.

Registration Memory Panel Design

Direct Access
Directly call up settings for the functions you want to use without following the menus from the main screen. This makes it quicker and easier to use many of the CVP and CGP Series functions.

Piano Reset
This button restores the piano sound with one touch from any setting. Pressing and holding it goes to piano-lock mode, where the setting will not change, even if you accidentally press another button while you are playing.
