The Means Of Communication in the Past, Today and the Future The communication has always been the

crucial part of mankinds social life. The means of communication has changed according to the changes in peoples living conditions and all other circumstances such as technological developments. Throughout history, the technology has had a huge impact on the means of communication. In the past, smoke was used as a means of communication from one mountain to another. Needless to say that only a few simple messages could be sent and received with this primitive method of smoke signals. Carrier pigeon was another means of communication to send messages further away. The pigeons were trained for this two way communication method of letter carrying. The letter, which was replaced with fax and e-mail consecutively, used to be a common means of communication as well. People needed to send their messages further away and faster as the world population increased and started to be globalised. This period has influenced the methods of communication. Today, we use telephones, mobiles, text messages, e-mail, internet chat programmes as oral and literal ways of communication. The inventers and producers are aiming to develop faster, cheaper, smaller-sized, multi-tasking gadgets for communication. The communication technology has been changing to match our needs. However, the means of communication also shapes our life styles. Mobiles have been the most important things to carry after the identity card, the keys and the wallet. And the future? It is not difficult to predict the future of communication. The trend of mobile, multi-tasking, wireless technology seems to continue to improve. HDTVs, hologramic simulators are the clues for possibility of image transfering or the matter transfering at the speed of light in the future. We will be transfered to communicate our own messages to the other places in an instant one day. Who knows?.. http://kubrayelkenci.blogcu.com/the-means-of-communication-in-the-past-today-andthe-future/2631963

Means of communication Introduction A few centuries ago people knew only a few kinds of communication. They could speak to each other, they could send their message from one place to another by smoke signals, they used mail. Later on, they also had some newspapers. The first expansion of media was when the radio and television were invented. The second and the biggest boom started in 1960s when the first communication satellite was launched into orbit. There are 4 main media: Newspapers, TV, Radio and the Internet. Todays people take this as an ordinary thing and we dont realise that we nearly cant live without it. Media are very important for us. They give us big amount of information, so big that we cant remember all that things. They help us to understand things and if you have lots of information you are able to make your own decisions. This is connected with education and media are very good teachers. They highly influence us. They can help other people making charities... News arent always true, they are not objective or says just half true. Our world is very huge and sending a message from America to Asia a hundred years ago was nearly impossible or it took a lot of time. Nowadays you can send the message in a few seconds and it is very simple. The media makes the world much smaller particularly the TV and the Internet. When you turn on the TV or a computer you can see whole world like it would be in the next village. You can learn the culture and habits of other nationalities, you can see what they are doing right now. The world is also called the global community village. There are not only good things about media. Firstly there are always some information that are not true. We have to be careful about it but when you listen to media for a long time you can find some companies which are nearly always true. Secondly there is a danger of being influenced in the bad way (lot of pornography on the Internet, lot of action films in TV. Thirdly if you are a famous person the media very often take very big piece of your privacy.

Newspapers Newspapers are the oldest kind of communication but we can say that they are today quite old-fashioned. They are not flexible because when something happens you cant read about it until the next day. You can read some newspapers on the Internet too. Newspapers still have their own magic. People are weary of looking in a box and it is very nice to buy newspapers, have a cup of coffee and a breakfast in the garden. Nobody is disturbing you. Everything is calm. Its like magic. 3 main kinds of newspaper: Broad sheets (a quality newspaper) very big pages, hardly any colour pages, not too much photos, more difficult language, it focuses on some topic more details and facts, longer articles, more tidy-looking, nearly about everything (policy, culture, money...) people who read it are businessmen, people with higher education, people who dont like blabs (kecy) The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, MF, Lidov noviny, Svoboda Tabloids smaller pages, dramatic headlines, lots of colour pages, plenty of photos, short articles, human interests stories and sensations, simple language, many blabs they more popular than broad sheets, in GB the circulation is about 3 mil per day, it is read by all society ranks The Sun, The Mirror, Blesk, Hrom (both are shits) Special interests magazines they are issued weekly or monthly, they intent on special things (gardening, computers, food...)

they are much more expensive than daily newspapers but they are printed in better paper, you should be more educated in a special things to understand it

Radio Radio is the second oldest kind of media. Although we nowadays have TV radio is still very popular. It has lots of advantages: you can take it nearly where you want (very popular in a car) because it is mostly used for listening to music it is very good for relaxing just to lie down and listen to it (watching TV became tiring) it is very often used for a background sound; it can notify about events quicker than a TV at present the radio is very well developed so if you have a good receiver you are able to choose which kind of programs you like to listen to (PTY) you can also notify people about traffic jams and other events but not is spoken way but in words (RDS) There are also some disadvantages to a TV you cant see the moving pictures

Kinds of programs: current affairs (news), discussions, music all kinds, culture, weather forecast, sport events and matches, breakfast radio...

At present you can choose from lots of channels, some of them are state (which you can listen to everywhere in the state: Ro1) but most of them are private (they have many advertisements: Orion, Hellax, Radio City...).

Broadcasting in GB The world famous British radio station is the BBC because they have their BBC World Service, which broadcast in 37 languages. the seat of the BBC is in London the total number of program hours is 800; one week audience of an English programs is about 25 mil people, the total week audience (with other 36 languages) is about 120 mill people there work about 120 journalists at the listening centre they listen to other 35 languages and many programs they want to find out some new news

TV TV is maybe the most widespread media in cultivated countries. It is a media with the biggest strengths it can influence us very much because of its moving pictures. With coming of communication satellites you can choose from variety programs (news, childrens programs, programs with lots of films...). They use lots of advertisements because they want to earn money (if the channel is more popular they earn more money). Some people say that it is needless to have so much adverts but I think that it

is good because you can choose which product is the best for you. but its true that they sometimes lie and many of them are absolutely stupid.

Kinds of programs: childrens, current affairs, discussion, pop music, gardening, arts, natural, history, film review, customer affairs, language-learning, human interest, fashion, light entertainment, variety; documentaries, the news (is), soap operas, quiz shows, game shows, breakfast TV, costume dramas, the National Lottery draw, film, action series, weather forecast, sci-fi series...

Broadcasting in BG and CZ GB 5 channels: BBC 1, BBC 2 (these two dont have adverts), ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, + satellite programs CZ T 1, T 2, Nova, Prima, + satellite programs

The Internet Very huge, world-wide, very fast, lots of information more than in TV, it costs a lot of money to have Internet today because you have to pay the provider (he has the entrance to Internet) and you have to pay the telephone if you use modem, hard link costs at least 10 000 crowns a month... But you can find there everything if you know how to find it.
