Task 5 Research in to similar music magazines on which you could base your magazine.

. Map out possible ideas for your music magazine including names, possible music genres and ideas for articles. Similar Music Magazines Kerrang! Kerrang! is a UK magazine devoted to rock. It is published weekly by Bauer Media Group. According to Bauer Media Group, the audience of this magazine are young, individually minded and passionate consumers, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty and the audience is mainly male, aged 15- 35.

Rock Sound Rock Sound is a UK magazine devoted to rock, but is less commercial that Kerrang! It still gives coverage about well known acts though. I notice how this magazine uses a lot of bright block colours as Kerrang! does, and this is a feature I will definitely bring into my magazine. I do, however, prefer how Kerrang!s front cover is always a lot busier.

My magazine I plan to make a rock music magazine that is similar to Kerrang! (I found during my audience research that this was the most familiar rock music magazine). It will consist of similar fonts and similar colour themes, but will have to feature something musical on the front cover as my magazine is not established as a music magazine like Kerrang is. Genre: Rock.

Possible names for my magazine: Rock On Encore Amplify Strumming Distortion Ideas for articles: Person on front cover will be a new artist: double page spread will be about this new and upcoming artist. Contents page will feature a picture of another artist, advertising a page about his new tour and CD. Task 6 Choose a music genre to feature in your magazine. List the names of bands artists that are part of this genre, a brief history of the genre and the type of imagery associated with it. Pioneering rock artists of the 50s, such as Chuck Berry, leaned heavily on classic blues structures. According to en.wikipedia.org, Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources. It then goes on to say Punk was an influence into the 1980s on the subsequent development of other sub-genres, including New Wave, post-punk and eventually the alternative rock movement. Alternative rock is now classed as mainstream rock, and most artists featured in magazines such as Kerrang! are actually more of an Alternative rock sound, but its still classed as rock, just not in the traditional Chuck Berry kind of rock.
