Course Description:
An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is software that runs all business areas of an organization, including accounting and finance, HR, sales and distribution, production, purchasing, and inventory. It is cross-functional, process-centered, real-time, and based on industry best practices. Further, ERP systems are adopted by all types of organizations, from service to manufacturing to not-for-profit. It is important that managers, holding both IT-related and non-IT-related positions, to obtain working knowledge of these systems, as they will be important stakeholders as users, auditors, consultants, and/or developers. This course covers ERP theory and practice. Course content includes evolution of ERP systems, business process reengineering, process mapping, the ERP life cycle, ERP functionality, and ERP auditing and risk issues.

Hands-on Component SAP


There is a significant technology component to this class. As NIU is a member of the SAP University Alliance, you will have the opportunity to receive training on SAP, the market leader in ERP software. Knowledge you obtain in this class will give you a competitive advantage in the marketplace as SAP is used by thousands of companies worldwide and hands-on training is highly sought after by recruiters. For the purposes of this course, SAP will be used to run a fictional company.

SAP Student Recognition Awards:


By successfully completing a program of study that included a minimum of three courses supported by the SAP University Alliances (UA), the students will be presented with SAP UA Student Recognition Awards that reflect hands-on experience in SAP-UA approved courses.

Target SAP Scholarship:


Target Corporation has sponsored SAP Scholarship for the OM&IS Department. Up to $1,500 Target SAP Scholarship will be awarded to one or more top students in the class. The scholarship recipients are required to attend the OM&IS Spring Banquet, which is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 27, at Best Western Dekalb.

Required Textbooks:
Concepts in Enterprise Resource Planning (3rd Edition). Course Technology: Cengage Learning. ISBN: 978-1-4239-0179-2 In addition to the required textbook, articles and case studies relating to the materials discussed in lecture will be provided by the professor. These will be posted on Blackboard.

Class Attendance and Preparation Policy:


All students are expected to attend class, be on time, and take active part in all class discussions. Please turn off your cell phones during class. Make-up Policy:
Generally, students will be allowed to make up missed exams and quizzes if the absence was excused. All excused absences must be documented and approved IN ADVANCE and IN WRITING with the professor and/or the appropriate college or university office. Exams and quizzes missed due to unexcused absences cannot be made up.

Academic Dishonesty Policy:


Any student who is caught cheating during an examination or assists another student in cheating during an examination will automatically fail the course. The case will be forwarded to the appropriate individuals for university action. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, crib sheets (unless approved by instructor), copying answers from another student's exam, use of recording devices, and gaining unauthorized access to exams or answers. In addition, plagiarism will not be tolerated. Submitting work that is not your own on individual assignments will result in receiving zero credit for the assignment and failure for the course for repeat offences. Similar to cheating on exams, cases of plagiarism will be forwarded to the appropriate individuals for university action. Homework Submissions
There will be 8 individual homework assignments for this course. Four of these assignments will be due during the first half of the semester, while the remaining four assignments will be completed within SAP. All assignments are due before the start of class. The first 4 assignments must be submitted electronically in Blackboard. Class work submitted late will be graded and then penalized 20% per each day it is late. Late homework will therefore not be accepted 5 days after the due date. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!

Grade Appeals Policy:


It is the students' responsibility to keep all graded materials that have been returned. The instructor's grades are assumed to be accurate unless you can show otherwise. Any student wishing to appeal a grade must petition the instructor during office hours. The student must indicate the specific section he/she wishes to be re-graded and a complete explanation (rationale) of why the student feels they deserve a different grade.

I use the following scale to assign grades: 90% - 100% = A, 80% - 89.99% = B, 70% 79.99% = C, 60% 69.99% = D, < 59.99% = F. This scale is firm!
