Tell me, which chair would you choose say, as a substitute to the chairs in your classroom?

Enlighten me.
Or maybe this?
BTW, what does Industrial Design has to do with all this? Chairs? Are you serious?

WHAT?? ID??
Industrial design is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimise the function, value, and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer
(The Industrial Designers Society of America. IDSA)

THE IMPACT OF ID
INVESTMENT COST
Direct Cost Cost of ID services. Example: number of designers, materials cost. Manufacturing Cost Expenses to fabricate product details. ID can also reduce manufacturing costs. Example: Surface finish, tooling cost, production cost. Time Cost Penalty associated with extended lead time due to delay in production. Example: Refining the ergonomics and aesthetics of a product, building prototypes.

THE IMPACT OF ID
CORPORATE IDENTITY
Increased product appeal. Greater customer satisfaction through additional or better features. Strong brand identity through consistent and recognisable appearances (eg. Colour, form, style, features). Product differentiation. increased market share of the organisation.

6) Coordination 5) Control of Drawing / Model 4) Further Refinement & Final Concept Selection 3) Preliminary Refinement 2) Conceptualisation 1) Investigation of customer needs

TIMING OF ID PROCESS
It really depends on the:
PRODUCT
TECHNOLOGY DRIVEN PRODUCT
Core benefit is based on its technology. Ability to accomplish a specific technical task. Consumer will likely purchase the product primarily for its technical performance. Example ?

TIMING OF ID PROCESS
PRODUCT DEVELOPEMENT ACTIVITY INVESTIGATION OF CUSTOMER NEEDS CONCEPT GENERATION AND SELECTION CONCEPT TESTING SYSTEM-LEVEL DESIGN DETAIL DESIGN, TESTING, AND REFINEMENT
Masni-Azian, A. 2012
TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN PRODUCT
No ID involvement Collaboration with marketing and engineering ID help engineering create proto. Little involvement of ID Emphasize on packaging.
USER-DRIVEN PRODUCT
Close collaboration with marketing. ID shall be in compliance to customer needs ID shall be in compliance to customer needs ID narrows down concept. Coordination with eng, manufacturing, marketing.
QUALITY OF USER-INTERFACE EMOTIONAL APPEAL ABILITY TO MAINTAIN AND REPAIR THE PRODUCT
