A Critique Paper A binukot is a princess of a certain tribe in Visayas who is securely hidden in order not to expose her white,

beautiful skin; she is also believed to be the most beautiful woman in the tribe. It is her job to hold the history of their clan. On a local custom such as marriage, a binukot shall sing an epic and dance a traditional dance. Its not a normal epic, but a really long one that she has memorized only by oral tradition.

A disadvantage of oral tradition in the modern times is that we do not use our brains anymore and we rely on technology, another one is that we tend to change words because it is said orally. Many have already refused to be of this kind of royalty due to the evolvement of society and the kind of civilization. If this continues, epics and our history will vanish. Yes, the binukot system will survive in society, but not in its original manner, perhaps it is revised in order to unify it with modernization for a better adaption. If you will not know your menu, you will not know what kind of food you are, I think that is the significance of history, it is to know the deeper meaning behind nationalism. I think our rich past can be mixed up with modern society by means of modification. We should record and write our history to keep it from vanishing. Yes, oral tradition is good; but we should do better, and even the best.
