New Sports Complex Arena Proposal Should citizens of Sacramento or the owners of the Sacramento Kings pay for the new proposed sports complex arena site located at the old railroad yard next to the heart of Sacramentos downtown? Thats a question that have been running across Sacramento city council members minds for multiple years and been debated to be controversial. To the fans, losing a local NBA basketball team means more than people just losing their jobs. To the Sacramento Kings owners, the new arena proposal means business or not. The Sacramento local NBA basketball team called the Kings been contemplating leaving Sacramento for various reasons, but one of the most influential topics of leaving Sacramento have been blamed due to the lack of Sacramento not providing an modern updated sports arena complex for the Sacramento Kings to play at. The current arena called Power Balance Pavilion, formerly known as Arco Arena is not able to host current professional sports events and only moderately capable of featuring events such as rodeos, icecapades, circus shows, and some major concerts (Coldiron). Winning the approval of the $5 billion dollar project to fund the new arena site for a company called Thomas Enterprises Inc is the only option for Sacramento (Now). Therefore, the new Sacramento Kings arena proposal to be constructed at the old rail yard location east of Interstate 5 neighboring Sacramentos downtown is economic growth because the new arena site

Yang 2 will generate more needed employment and because the new arena site will attract revenue for the struggling Sacramento economy. First, one influential factor in measuring economic growth is the number of jobs being created (Schiller 160). Job growth leads to more consumers in the market place and typically in return leads to more consumption, an aspect of the overall economic growth (Schiller 11). According to Kelly Johnsons article called NBA, developers unveil new downtown arena plan, Johnson points out that the new arena project proposal would create 300 immediate professional or technical jobs, 5,000 construction-related jobs during build out, and 20,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs (p. 2). Job creation benefits the current high unemployment rate in the Sacramento area. With the potential growth of another 20,000 plus jobs that can be created within the new arena proposal, denying an opportunity to influence economic growth in the sluggish Sacramento economy would be harmful
