Video Self-Evaluation
Review
the
videotape
of
your
speech.
As
you
watch,
answer
the
following
questions.
1. How
did
you
try
to
get
the
audiences
attention?
How
effective
was
it?
In this speech, I tried to speak enthusiastically. But I think that wasn't effect as much as I expected. The major factor that gets the student attention was the smell of the chocolate, I think.
2. Did
you
clearly
communicate
your
purpose
(e.g.
I
am
going
to
inform/convince
you
about/to)?
How
did
you
motivate
your
audience
to
listen
to
you?
3.
How
was
your
speech
organized?
How
clearly/logically
did
it
progress?
Could
I
stop
paying
attention
to
you
and
read
your
outline
instead
and
still
follow
along
easily?
I think my outline for this speech, and some speech skills had progressed.
I organized my outline from introduce the desert's ingredients to went through the while process of it's making steps.
I memorized all the words from my outline, therefore, Mr. Webb, you could follow my speech alone without the outline.
4.
What
were
some
of
the
transition
words
you
used
in
your
speech?
Did
you
clearly
indicate
movement
from
one
part
of
your
speech
to
another?
Why/why
not?
I always used "and" through my speech, it almost covers the information I want to convey to the audiences. I know that I was clearly indicate movement from one part the other at first; however, my process started to mix up when went through the string steps.
5.
6.
Evaluate
your
conclusion.
Did
it
connect
seamlessly
with
the
introduction
and
body?
Did
you
give
a
clear
sense
of
ending?
No, The ending does not connect seamlessly with the introduce and body. But I think I had a sense of ending that is a lot better than last time.
7.
Evaluate
your
delivery.
Were
you
loud
enough/clear
enough/energetic
enough/varying
your
tone
enough/connecting
to
your
whole
audience
enough?
I think, my volume was loud enough. I also tried hard to varying my tones, it did work, but I think I can do better( even, it was better than the introductory speech, I still hope that I can do it perfectly on day.)
8.
How
did
your
use
of
voice,
gestures,
and
bodily
action
enhance
(or
detract)
from
the
message
of
your
speech?
What
will
you
do
to
enhance
the
message
of
your
speaking
opportunities?
I placed the bowl on the table and stirred it, but the audience didn't see anything as I was showing the steps for them. That's so unhelpful that I stayed on the stage to speak and they learnt nothing. So next time, I will hold up my demo after each steps. I think if I do it next time, my speech will be more persuasive. In my opinion, a demonstration speech about how to cook something is not only show them how to make. delicious food, but also motive them to cook what I had tough them at home..
9.
Did
you
appear
sincerely
interested
and
enthusiastic
in
the
topic
(your
classmate)
and
in
your
talking
with
your
audience?
What
did
your
body
language
and
eye
contact
say
to
your
audience?
Give
examples
to
support
your
answers.
I think my volume isn't as loud as I expected , also, I did a poor job on my gesture and eye contact parts, I don't Think I use any of gestures and body languages to delivery my messages, except cooking actions.
The major way that I would fix the shortages for this speech is not to choice cooking topic, so I can pay more attention on my public speak skills.
10.
Evaluate
the
overall
success
of
this
speech.
What
grade
(A-F)
would
you
assign
this
presentation?
Why?
What I would assign for this speech is to get either B nor C. If this a cooking class, I would expect that people acknowledge my cooking skills and get a B. I tough students how to make a delicious, creative desert, I worked so hard on the making process, and also the timing, even if I knew I would speak over.
If follow the speech rubric, I would admit that my speaking skills this time were so awful that I could even imagine. So, I am willing to accept a bad grade, C or even lower.
11.
Describe what you have learned from this speaking opportunity, and how you will use this information in the future.
If I have another opportunity to build second demonstration speech, I will especially cautious in the step of choosing the right topic, the topic is refer to the quality of your speaking skill. Then show and explain the process to audiences.
12.
What
did
you
learn
from
this
presentation
that
will
help
you
prepare
your
future
speech?
List
at
least
three
things
that
you
plan
on
working
on.
(To
just
practice
is
not
a
specific
step
exactly
how
will
you
practice?)
a.
Timing: my concept for timing is really bad. I notice that I won't look at the timing on the iPad because it will spread my attention from the speech, then my speech will go worse as I look on the iPad.
I think I need to count the timing at home, so I can control my speed effective when I am presenting my speech.
b.
Nervous : Nervous is always the biggest antagonist for my speech. All I need to do to deal with issue is not just speak in front of my family, the most important is to face "myself"----speak to mirror.
c.
Accent: I had try so hard to speak like an American (like Angela does), however, my Chinese accent is always block my way, or when I say a word, it sound really "American", my nervous nerves will break it down to Chinese accent. So annoying.
I just keep reading and reading my speech outline till I satisfy with my accent.
13.
Describe,
in
detail,
the
areas
you
will
improve
your
public
speaking
and
exactly
how
you
will
improve.
Include
a
variety
of
specific
steps
you
will
take
to
improve
your
public
speaking
skills.
I sound like a memorial robber went through the entire speech, thus, I should not build my speech outline with too much completely sentences, I should write a outline with key words instead, thus, I won't just memorize the whole conservation that i am going to say in the speech.
