ISSUE 10 February 2012 Dear LSR Member, The agenda is now complete for next weeks Startup Masterclass on best practice in mobile app development and marketing. This is an evening where four knowledgeable speakers will cover the things you wont learn from a textbook but only by doing - great for anyone who has already launched a mobile app or is thinking about it. Weekend of 24-26 Feb is the BeMyApp mobile app hackathon where you can put all that advice into good use. This event is something between a Startup Weekend and a traditional hack weekend: if you have an idea for an app, come and pitch it on Friday night; form a team around it and build a prototype. The winners of the hackathon will of course get some outstanding prizes and they'll also be entered into a competition between 5 other cities who are running BeMyApp over the same weekend: Berlin, Paris, New York, San Francisco and Dallas. So join in and let's show everyone that London is the best! BeMyApp is open to anyone who wants to bring their skills to a team. So, if youre a developer, marketer, designer or app idea generator, join us! We already have over 60 people now registered via various channels and some great sponsors on board including Cloudbees and Mashery who will be there to give access to their developer tools over the weekend and will be on hand to mentor teams that want to try out their services over the weekend. Enjoy the snow! Olga olga[at]techmeetups[dot]com London Silicon Roundabout Group

How Google will court startups at London Campus February 08, 2012 Updated: When the news broke a few months ago that Google was taking up a lease on a seven-storey building in East London, it wasnt exactly clear what the Internet giant wanted the space for. There were some vague mentions of a creative space and hackathons but in reality it all seemed a little vague. Fears of a mild recession across Europe February 06, 2012 The projection for global output has been revised downwards to 3.25% in 2012 amidst expectations of a mild recession across the euro area. A rise in sovereign yields, effects of bank deleveraging on the real economy and the impact of additional fiscal consolidation have all served to decrease market confidence in Europe.
