com/nmbutler 03/09/2012 To whom it may concern, I am an Emergency Management and Homeland Security Policy student excited to be completing my degree at the University of Akron. I am searching for an opportunity during Spring 2013 (Jan. - May) to apply my knowledge of hazard management, contingency planning, and risk mitigation to gain experience for my future career. I have an ambition to support emergency management efforts aiding response and recovery for people during their most vulnerable times. I have class project experience developing Emergency Operation Plans for major emergencies entailing operating procedures for large scale organization's Incident Command System incorporating mutual aid agreements, specialized communication flowcharts, and multiple agency coordination's to National Incident Management System (NIMS) standards. I am familiarized with the Grant Writing process; I've articulated request for proposals (RFP), formulated budgets and timelines, along with actual creation of a Grant Proposal. During my organizational involvement here at U of A, I've supported fundraising efforts for local disaster relief and recovery through the International Association of Emergency Managers, also I've gained great exposure to the local training opportunities such as the National Weather Service's Skywarn Training for natural hazards. My involvement with the Contingency Planners of Ohio continues to reinforce my understanding of emergency management by gaining exposure to emerging continuity efforts, for example I recently participated in the Crisis Communications 2012 webinar exploring new approaches for crisis notification and warnings systems utilizing social media. I have kept my GPA consecutively above 3.5 and achieved the dean's list every semester. My work experiences have helped shape my commitment to provide quality customer service and develop a strong drive for goal-oriented initiative in my character. I am very comfortable encouraging and helping professors learn new technology and techniques facilitating distance learning in the classroom via audio and video conferencing. My week requires adhering to a punctual schedule involving multiple levels of coordination and communication. I believe I possess the ingenuity and leadership emergency management requires, I am eager to start my career in this vast field and very much look forward to its future challenges! The Federal Emergency Management Agency and their role in leading recovery and response efforts for disaster has fascinated me ever since I began my degree. I believe FEMA is a truly vital aspect of our progressive society and would be honored to offer my commitment to aid their efforts. I am finishing my degree in the near future and believe FEMA's Student Temporary Employment Program could offer great experience and provide vital knowledge I could utilize for the rest of my time in the field. Any opportunity would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you! Best Regards,
