DETERMINING WIND LOADS FOR A ONE STORY BUILDING USING THE
FLORIDA BUILDING CODE AND ASCE 7
William A. Yanko, Graduate Fellow
E-mail: yanko@ce.ufl.edu
University of Florida- Department of Civil & Coastal Engineering
This worksheet uses the stipulations of the Florida Building Code (Without exception #1 in Section
1606.1.1; i.e. using ASCE 7) to evalaute wind loads on a relatively short structure. The following are
assumptions of the problem:
-Fully enclosed building
-Location of building: Pennsacola Florida
-Roof is essentially flat
-Although spacing is known for some elements, assume they can be changed
