MIRACLE STORIES Eulogy of Brother Voon

(Copied from the memorial service bulletin.) Brother Voon was born on February 16, 1953 in Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia. He was the second child in the family. He graduated in mathematics from Nanyan University, Singapore. In 1976 he came to Canada to continue his studies. Two years later he earned his Masters degree in Statistics from the University of New Brunswick. He then began working towards a Ph.D. in Statistics at UBC. Taking a break from his studies he returned to Malaysia where he worked as a teacher and also in a private company related to his field of studies. In 1991 he immigrated to Canada with his parents and sisters. They settled in Edmonton and he began work with the Alberta Cancer Board. Brother Voon was always gentle and quiet in nature. He was respectful of his parents and always looked out for his brother and sisters. He carried himself with strength and determination in everything he did. He humbly showed his wisdom and persistence in pursuit of truth. His hobbies included reading, playing table tennis and practicing Tai Chi. Even during the last few weeks of his life he was learning new movement in Tai Chi, hoping to bring them back to Canada to practice. In 1986 he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer (cancer of the nose and throat). In 1999 he was baptized. Since then he loves to pray and read his Bible. For the eleven years following the remission of his cancer he lived in a body

MIRACLE STORIES

ravished by intensive cancer treatments, all the while immersing himself in the love of Christ, his church and his friends. With his friends, he went on tirelessly spreading the Gospel to others. His life was like a burning candle emitting light to others. On January 15, 2009 he went back to Malaysia for a well earned break during which he intended to recuperate and recharge. He planned to return to Edmonton on April 7 with renewed strength to serve the Lord. But he suddenly took ill with pneumonia and his weak immune system could not fight the infection. On April 12 2009, Easter morning in KK, Malaysia, he finally laid his tired body to rest and went to be with the Lord for eternity. A few quotes from the many letters he wrote to me (BLF): Outreach Visitation has drawn me closer to the Lord as I read His Word with a new perspective. My prayer is also more focused now than before. I just want to let you know that it makes a difference, at least for me. I was joyful and thanked God for using a broken vessel like me. I think I was the most joyful of the three because I never thought of coaching anyone. The lady in Sobeys thanked me. She remembered that I had prayed for her and her son on the evening of Nov. 7th 09. All the while I know I am in the Lords hands and he will take care of me. I dont know what God wants me to do. I intend to retire on December 31st.
