Reections from a Hospital Bed Some describe being in a hospital bed as simply boring and others a sad resignation. However, to me it is a wonderful time of reection upon the Lord. All things work together for good

Sermon Outline
MINISTERING TO OTHERS (Romans 15:25-33) Christianity is not just a set of beliefs, but also a way of life. We all have responsibilities to serve in the body of Christ. All of us are required to give of our time, talent, and treasure for the Lords glory. Paul ends this chapter with a call to engage in two very practical ministries giving and prayer. These are ministries every believer is called to engage in today. Not all are called to be missionaries overseas or pastors, but all are called to enter into these two ministries. (1) MINISTRY OF GIVING (v25-29) (2) MINISTRY OF PRAYER (v30-33)

The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:28 that "all things work together for good to them that love God, and to them who are the called according to His purpose." All things do indeed work together for good for God's blood-bought children. While we may be caught by surprise over the event that happened, it does not surprise our loving and sovereign Heavenly Father who in His lovingkindness and tender mercies providentially allows it to happen to His children for their good. And so with this mind, enabled by His grace, I am able to "count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptation". A Very Present Help "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1 Yes, being stuck or conned to the bed doing all daily activities can be uncomfortably boring. With the fractured knee partially set in cast, I am unable to move around, even on the bed, without feeling the sharp pain emanating from the fractured area. More precisely there are multiple fractures at the top of the bone below the knee, at what is known in medical anatomy as Tibial Plateau. As this is a weight bearing bone and the cracks being complex, a CT scan was ordered for better assessment of the damage and strategy of restoration. Coupled with the need to let the swelling in the affected area to subside, the surgery has been scheduled for Wednesday, 8 February 2012. The surgery will attempt to piece together the broken pieces with screws and plates. It is uncomfortable and inconvenient to have to do all toilet activities on the bed. This describes the serious limitation one faces with an impaired part of the body. Many simple activities such as sitting up

2012 Theme: Service Of A Disciple Waiting upon the Lord Being on enforced "break" in the hospital, I have now more time to wait upon the Lord in His Word which I am enjoying. Sister Cindy Tan wrote Psalm 62:5 on a beautiful plaque: "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him" in the hamper that she and Simon brought to me during a visit. When I sit upright on the bed, this verse is my line of sight. Yes, it is a good reminder indeed. Thank God for your prayer, visitation and encouragement. The best of all is prayer before the throne of grace. Pray that the post-surgery recovery will be uneventful and for good and quick recovery. Pray also for Poh Lian and Theophila that they will experience the sufciency of His grace during this time.

from a lying position or turning to the sides are now energy-sapping tasks. When these activities, which are normally taken for granted, are done, they leave one feeling very exhausted. Even typing this article on a laptop is a very physically painful and exhausting task. Except for the Lord's help, it would otherwise have been very tough. He is my very present Help in trouble. Uncertainties of life I did not expect myself to land up in hospital on 1 February 2012. Such is the uncertainties of life. I am sure you were surprised to hear of my being hospitalised. James reminds us in James 4:14, "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." Moses reminds us to pray thus to the Lord, So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12) And whatever we do, we ought to wait upon the Lord to seek His will in our lives. James advises thus, For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. (James 4:15).

Testimonies of CBS Students (Part 1)

The following are reports from Rev Dr Bill Ebert of the students whom we are currently supporting. Junior Students Roselyn Balila is assigned in Makati Fundamental Baptist Church. She is a happy soul with a bright perspective in life. On weekends she works with the choir, children outreach center, disciple new believers and plays the piano during church services. She is so thankful that she was able to continue her studies with your help. Ferliza Carbos is full of thanksgiving every time she talks of her studies. How she was being provided by the Lord and how she is being blessed with people around her. In return, she is determined to give her best in every task given to her. She is assigned in Kingswill Baptist Church, Novaliches. On Saturdays, they have sports with the Young People they call Bible Volleyball. Then she goes to visit the children and teach in an outreach center. On Sundays, she teaches Sunday school beginners class. In the afternoons, on the rst and second Sunday of the month they conduct evangelism and on the third and fourth Sundays they have the YP fellowship. Senior Students Rey Ryan Villanueva is now on his last semester. He is very thankful for the help that you have extended to him all these years. He is also doing well in his studies and practical ministry. On weekends he goes to his home church in Fisherman of Christ Fellowship, Batangas. He handles the youth group, is involved in the discipleship program of the church, and is given the opportunity to preach occasionally. After graduation he will be working full-time with this church. Reyson Ventura is also graduating this March. He is a consistent good student inside and outside of the classroom. He is a well respected and responsible student and is assigned as the Mens dorm monitor. He is assigned to Independent Christian Church of the Living God in Malolos, Bulacan as week end worker. He is in charge of the Kids outreach, the Young Peoples group, teaches Sunday School and is assigned to preach every second week of the month. Joshua Tonato is another graduating student. One dedicated man for the ministry. As a pastors kid, he is really focused to the task of the ministry. Right now he is assigned to Christ In You in Novaliches. He does visitation on Saturdays. On Sundays he meets with his cell group, and then teaches Sunday school on the rst and third Sundays. He preaches on the second and last Sundays monthly. Let us continue to pray for these students as they are on the last 2 months of their studies. May they be strengthened as they prepare for the great task ahead. May the Lord usher them to a fruitful and meaningful ministry.

2012 Theme: Service Of A Disciple

Excerpts from Dr Tows Chat 12 February 2012 Pray when ideas run dry One member asked me, Pastor, I read your weekly article. How do you get so many different ideas? You have an inexhaustible store! No, my dear, I dont have that sort of store of ideas as you think. Often times it is a hard struggle, thinking what to write. This week I was having such a struggle, wondering, What shall I write? It is at such a time as this that I seek the Lords help. Did He not say, Ask, and it shall be given you (Matt 7:7)? Let me share some thoughts as I put pen to paper and write out of my memory store what I have learnt and experienced in the matter of prayer. Prayer is like breathing This I learnt from an old man of God, from his lifelong experience and testimony. Isnt this what the Apostle Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing. It is like breathing without ceasing, as long as we live! Such is the importance of prayer, a moment by moment keeping communication lines open and connected with Gods Throne of Grace. Such a state of connectedness is the pre-requisite of triumphant and holy living, recognizing that temptation and Satans snares are everywhere, out to stumble the unwary. Our Lord stresses the vital importance of believers being joined with Him, as He said in John 15:5: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Herein is Sunset Gospel Hour the essence of unceasing 12 Feb @ 6pm prayer. So much on the matter of prayer.

Let Go and Let God As children bring their broken toys With tears for us to mend I brought my broken dreams to God, Because He is my Friend But then instead of leaving Him In peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help, With ways that were my own At last, I snatched them back again And cried, "How can you be so slow?" "My child" He said, "what could I do? You never did let go!" --Author Unknown
