SCOPE
The purpose of this Standard is to describe the format of engineering numbering systems in order to achieve numbering consistency for Anglo American Projects.
POLICY
Below follows a tabular representation of the uniform numbering format to be used for all mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, piping and instrumentation etc.
DESCRIPTION Mechanical Equipment Numbers Pipe Line Numbers Valve Numbers Instrument Tag Numbers Instrument Panel / Box Codes Cable Numbering AREA 101 101 101 101 101 101 FUNCTIONAL EQUIPMENT CON01 WP01 WP CON01 IC ID CON01-LSL01 SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT GBX01 SC100 HKA001 LSL01 0000 100 /A 0000 ITEM SPECIFIC
Always use the lowest level number (Area, sub-Area or sub-sub-Area) that has been approved Table 1: Uniform numbering format for equipment
The Functional Equipment Number (denoted in above table in column Functional Equipment) is derived from the respective functional equipment in each area (i.e. conveyors) and the acronyms are summarised in Appendix C. The Specific Equipment Number (denoted in above table in column Specific Equipment) is derived from the respective equipment which forms part of the functional equipment and acronyms are summarised in Appendix D through K. The Item Specific Number (denoted in above table in column Item Specific) is available for additional information as illustrated in various examples throughout this document.
REFERENCES
The following documents are either: Applicable Documents: applicable to the extent specified herein and thus forming part of this document. The applicability shall generally relate to the Anglo American Projects in terms of policy, procedures, standards, qualification etc. Reference Documents: where the information concerned has been fully extracted from the reference document and added to this document, or where the reference document contains information relevant to this document or for information only.

5.2
Each stream in a particular process area has a unique numerical sequence commencing at 01. Any stream will be readily identified by looking up its process area number and then following the sequence of numbers in that process area. In addition, this manner of stream numbering facilitates the addition of new process streams to any process area.

Each Commodity Code in each process area has a unique numerical sequence commencing from 01. The Fluid Commodity Code defines the fluid carried in the pipe. Commodity codes will be defined in the piping specification and are summarised in Appendix F. The pipe materials are summarised in Appendix K. The Line Size will be the nominal pipe size of the pipeline expressed in millimetres. For plastic piping the line size refers to the Outer Diameter of the pipe. The plant and mine piping specifications will contain the Piping Material Specification Codes. The area designator in the line number is always the source area and this area number is maintained until it branches off e.g. maintaining the source area if running process lines thru pipe racks to another area. Utility piping needs clarification as to its source and the number is then maintained in the area header. Utility piping branches take the number of the destination area. The line sequential number is maintained through diameter changes.
