INTRODUCTION
It may seem like Civil Engineering students must know their job options and the careers they could get if they graduate from Civil Engineering before they enter a University program of study, but for some people these are questions that reappear throughout their academic career. A civil engineer designs, plans, builds and operates elements of infrastructure. He or she considers the big picture by contributing to the design and construction of airports, highways, water systems, bridges, power stations and more. Civil engineers ensure the safety and efficiency of these works by applying practical solutions to design, build and maintenance problems and concepts. Civil engineers will consider various design elements for a project and will meet with clients to plan civil projects, such as buildings, roads and bridges. They also develop construction specifications and procedures for these types of projects. Civil engineers are employed by engineering, consulting and construction companies, as well as government public works and transportation departments. They may also work for power companies or architecture firms consulting on sewer systems, water distribution and more. Civil engineers may be employed in areas that require structural analyses or stress analyses, or by large communications companies designing fiber optic cable layouts. Environmental civil engineers are involved in different processes, such as soil remediation, air quality and drinking water quality. Structural engineers are involved in the design and construction of nuclear containment reactors. Civil engineer job is one of the worlds most important jobs: they build our quality of life. With creativity and technical skill, civil engineers plan, design, construct and operate the facilities essential to modern life, ranging from bridges and highway systems to water treatment plants and energy-efficient buildings. Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, drinking water and energy needs, urban redevelopment and community planning. The types of jobs available to civil engineers are diverse and additional skills training may lead to unique opportunities.
STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS
There are high demands for civil engineering graduates who passed their board exam.
This study aims to help the students choose the type of job they will be entering after passing the Civil Engineering board examination. Newly graduates can easily find jobs that require a low level of responsibility that suits their ability and skills.
CONCENTUAL FRAMEWORK
Civil engineers work in all parts of the country, and some spend their entire careers traveling and working on different projects. About half of civil engineers work for public authorities. In the private sector, civil engineers can work not only for traditional engineering firms, but also for telecommunication businesses, consulting firms, or even toy and athletic equipment manufacturers. A variety of engineering specialties are open to qualified graduates:
Transportation engineers they work with local and regional planning boards to identify
Structural engineers they work with architects and builders to assure that steel and other material used in construction projects exceeds the needs of a given project.
Geo-technical engineers - help builders excavate underground projects and work with
Hydraulic engineers - they construct canals to speed up shipping while preserving the
natural flow of wild fish through a region, and build dams that generate vital electricity while opening up potential new parcels of land for development.
Wastewater engineers - help improve both our environment and our economy by helping
communities and businesses dispose of waste without polluting natural water sources.
Environmental engineers they examine the quality of our soil, ensuring that harmful
toxins do not seep up through the ground and contaminate crops, animals, businesses and homes.
Compliance officers - work in both corporate and government settings to ensure that local
and federal laws are observed in the construction, maintenance, and operation of all kinds of facilities.
Construction managers - use their engineering and leadership skills to ensure that
relationships with state agencies that would provide funding or construction of major projects. Local planning engineers would help residents understand the potential environmental impact of new highways or infrastructure projects.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
For clearer understanding of the terms used in this study, below are their meanings: Career- lifelong job; trained for and expecting to work in a particular occupation for an entire working life rather than briefly Construction- area where building group of building is being constructed or repaired. Federal law- is the body of law created by the federal government of a country. A federal government is formed when a group of political units, such as states or provinces join together in
a federation, surrendering their individual sovereignty and many powers to the central government while retaining or reserving other limited powers. As a result, two or more levels of government exist within an established geographic territory Fiber optic cable- cable made up of super-thin filaments of glass or other transparent materials that can carry beams of light. Because a fiber-optic cable is light-based, data can be sent through it at the speed of light. Infrastructure- the large scale public systems, services and facilities of a country or region that are necessary for economic activity, including power and water supplies, public transportation, telecommunication, roads and schools. Parcel of land- an extended area of land Sewerage - removal of waste materials by means of a sewer system.
