Message from the President

Welcome to another exciting issue of our club newsletter. Loads of interesting news as we begin this year! Our open house in December 2011 was a great success. Kudos to Hilary Freer, AC-B, CL, and her team of soldiers and, of course, every club member who came and supported us. Our guest listserv has now grown to 36 members. We are on track to accomplish at least 5 of the distinguished club program goals. Congrats to Jessica Fomalont, AC-B, AL-B, for acing the AL-B Leadership track and attending the TLI training. Again, thanks to each one of you who are making this possible through your concerted efforts. As part of our promotional outreach, we have heard you and here's what we are up to: We are launching our new website http://nastoastmasters.wordpress.com/. Thanks to Hilary Freer, AC-B, CL, and Annie Drinkard for teaming up. We appreciate your feedback. Wondering, what's keeping the bulletin boards on your floor attractive? Well, those are the latest Toastmasters flyers posted by Deborah Young, CC, our VP-Membership. Thanks to Thomas Jeffrey for spearheading the guest listserv initiative and continuing to build momentum on Facebook. By the way, look forward to receiving a gift from our club, a small token to celebrate our 30th year. Looking ahead, watch out for the area-level spring International Speech and Evaluation Contest to be held in March. Look forward to seeing you there! We strongly believe that the club should evolve and provide a rewarding experience to you, our members, who matter most. As always, we are open to your ideas! Go Team!! Cheers,

Priyanka

Accomplishments:
Tony Quick and Sharon Lamberton did their icebreaker speeches. Hilary Freer, AC-B, CL, successfully organized our open house in December. Hilary took a different approach: TM members were stationed in the atrium during lunch. As National Academies employees and visitors entered, they were greeted and informed about the benefits of Toastmasters. During our February 16 meeting, Rink van der Have, CTM, honored Joan Rosenthal, CTM, who retired from The National Academies after 37 years of service as the program manager of PGA. Joan has been a member of Toastmasters since the early 1990's. She served a club president term and held the position of sergeant-at-arms for several years in the Green Building and continued when she moved over to Keck. Rink reminded us that Joan has been a great supporter of her colleagues. Joan informed us that our club always brings a smile to her face. Thanks Joan for all your hard work. The National Academies Toastmasters wishes you a happy retirement! In March 2012, The National Academies Toastmasters celebrates 30 years as a club. Toastmasters International recognized us by providing a certificate of achievement: http://www.scribd.com/doc/81895536/NASTM-30
