P.C. Ryan Komadowski, Sergeant Scott Moreton, Constable Steve Mahler, A/Insp. Mark Cox and Ward One Councillor Brian McHattie attended the meeting.
Police officers also advised that nighttime surveillance in the area had been increased (for businesses in particular). As well, police have recently completed a successful project called Just Clause which was put in place to address theft from autos over the December holiday period. One objective of crime prevention is to make personal property, residences and business premises tougher targets. Taking some care and incorporating security measures or other improvements can reduce the likelihood of a criminal identifying your location as an easy target. Therefore, people are advised not to leave anything in their cars. (i.e. loose change, GPS, CDs, shopping bags etc.) Constable Mahler also mentioned Operation Safeguard where specially trained Hamilton Police Service Auxiliary members conduct free home security audits in residential areas. These audits aim to educate homeowners on ways to Target Harden their homes against potential Break and Enters and vandalism such as graffiti. To receive a free residential Safeguard Audit, please contact the HPS Auxiliary Branch at (905) 546-4929. On behalf of residents and local businesses, the KNA would like to thank the attending officers for a very informative evening.
Approximately 80 residents & local business reps attended the Crime Issues meeting on Jan 10th.

The Kirkendall neighbourhood is a busy place these days! The KNA has begun work on a Neighbourhood Strategic Plan. I think it is a great idea and I encourage you to get involved. There are a number of transportation-related improvements in Kirkendall including a new pedestrian light at Aberdeen and Kent (to be installed in Summer 2012) and a new No Left Turn prohibition from Queen Street to Stanley Avenue during the morning rush hour (an 18 month pilot project starting in the Spring). Ive been working with the Dundurn Fortinos to make some changes to their parking lot to make it safer and friendlier to both pedestrians and cyclists. The Strathcona Transportation Management Plan is looking into ways to improve safety at Main and Dundurn. A public meeting will be held to gather your feedback and suggestions. A new Dundurn HSR bus route is planned. I had hoped that it would be in place by September 2012, but unfortunately that has been put off until 2013. In the meantime, we will be working on the exact route and will hold a public meeting to get your feedback. I was pleased to hear that Hamilton Police Service
