SEASON of LENT: The Time for Scrutinies
The Season of Lent is a time of: * prayer * self-denial * helping others In this way the whole Church, together with those to be baptized (Roy Kwon) or received into the Church (Suesan Gliddon), prepare for the Feast of Easter. During Lent we also have the Scrutinies which are Liturgical Rites focusing on the great themes of Lent: purification and enlightenment; self-searching and repentance. The first of the three Scrutinies is this weekend at the Sunday 6.00pm Mass * Please take home a Project Compassion Box or Envelope Stations of the Cross: All Fridays in Lent: 7.30pm (St Josephs Church) Sacrament of Anointing: Thursday, 22 March at 2.00pm Mass of the Holy Oils: Monday, 2nd April (St Patricks Cathedral, Ballarat) Communal Celebration of Gods Mercy: Tuesday, 3rd April at 7.30pm Easter Triduum: 5-7 April (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil) Project Compassion (Week 1): Read this weeks story about Flabiana from Timor Leste and what has happened in her life, and that of many others, due to the conflict following Independence in 1999. With the help of Caritas Australia thousands of conflict-affected families have been empowered to take ownership of their lives and are now confident of a more prosperous future. NB: Thanks to those who are already making a commitment to the weekly Project Compassion envelopes. Family Fun Day: Sunday, 4 March at the Gallery and the Civic Green from 12noon. World Day of Prayer: Friday, 2nd March. The focus this year is Let Justice Prevail. Venue: Warrnambool Salvation Army, 265 Lava Street at 7.30pm.
