Are Electric Lawn Mowers Any Good - Facts You Should Know Electric lawn mowers are specially designed lawn mowers that have a lot of desirable features not present in gasoline powered lawn mowers. But are electric mowers good? To answer this question, we must first get all the facts. Electric lawn mowers were first conceptualized in order to address the limitations and disadvantages of the traditional gasoline powered lawn mower. Gasoline powered lawn mowers generate too much noise as well as pollute the air with the motor's exhaust fumes. The noise generated can easily bother the neighbors and as such, using a gasoline lawnmower can only be done during pre-agreed lawn mowing times as a sign of respect to neighbors. By using an electric motor instead of a gasoline motor, the lawnmower will significantly generate less noise. The only sound coming from your lawn mower will be the sound of the blades as it continuously cuts through the grass. There are two kinds of electric lawn mowers, the corded and the cordless versions. The corded version uses an electric wall socket to power the electric motor. The power is delivered through a length of electric cord traveling from the socket towards the mower. This severely limits the coverage of the electric motor. It can only work as far as the electric cord's reach. The other kind of electric lawn mower is the cordless lawnmower. In this version, the electric motor is powered by a rechargeable battery. This version is a perfect fusion of the benefits of both a gasoline lawn mower and electric lawn mower without any of its limitations. The cordless lawn mower can effectively cut grass like a regular gasoline powered lawn mower without generating bothersome noise levels. Because it uses a rechargeable battery, its range is not limited like that of a corded lawn mower. With all these facts at hand, the question is whether electric lawn mowers are good, but rather what kind of electric lawn mower would be good for you. If you have no neighbors to worry about, a gasoline lawn mower is good enough for you. If you only have a small lot, a corded mower can already do the job and should

the property be bigger, then its time to get a cordless lawn mower. About the author: Looking to buy a lawn mower? Anonymous February 5, 2012 at 4:02 pm (Edit) I have an electric lawn mower, are there battery packs available for such a lawn mower? I have an electric lawn mower. I love that its green, but to run the mower, I have to plug it in to a huge extension cord. I have a small yard, but I wish I could find a rechargeable battery pack or something for it. Are there rechargeable batteries that I could plug my mower into?

Hondu February 10, 2012 at 5:51 pm (Edit) You cannot convert a 110v mower to, in most cases, an eighteen volt battery pack type without an entirely different motor and spending much more money than the

mower is worth. Gotta question for you. What is so green about electricity? That electricity has to be generated somehow. Diesel and coal burning plants, or water power with enormous dams that obstruct waterways and kill wildlife, timber cleared and graded right of ways for power lines, giant oil and pcb filled transformer and substations that were all built with heavy hydrocarbon emitting equipment and still maintained with more of the same equipment. All of the materials for this fine grid of green had to be logged, mined or drilled for. Even solar and wind power stations didnt just bloom there. Sorry, you are an innocent victim of my diatribe, but in spite of what the power companies like to spout, and once electricity is generated and delivered it doesnt cause anymore pollutants, at least as we know now, it still isnt green.

Anonymous February 10, 2012 at 9:28 am (Edit) Can I still cut my grass with an electric mower? The sun hasnt hit my lawn yet so there is still a little dew on it, would it be ok if I went ahead and started mowing it with an electric mower or will it damage it or worse me!

deborah_dej February 19, 2012 at 7:23 am (Edit) Its not good to cut wet or moist grass because of the uneven cut with the possible clumped up blades with wet grass. But the sun is going to heat up the lawn-wet clippings are good to keep the root of the grass blades moisturized and require less watering. You want beauty or sensible lawn care.

It has been raining everyday for the past two weeks and the lawn is getting pretty tall, I have an electric lawn mower and want to mow but not sure if mowing when the lawn is wet from the rain is a good idea.

Its not a good idea to mow a wet lawn, regardless of what kind of mower you use. When cutting a wet lawn, the grass is torn rather than cut and it encourages disease. Better to wait until its dry. I know you want to get out and cut that tall lawn, but, its best to wait. But, if you HAVE to cut it, it shouldnt hurt you because the electric source is wherever the plug is.

Arth February 18, 2012 at 5:21 pm (Edit) Can I use an electric lawn mower near a transformer box?

There is a transformer box on my lawn. Its said on the transfermer box that keep energized electrical equipment 10ft from one side and 3 ft for all other sideds But will there really be any problem if an electric mower is approaching? Or is that warning just simply to make sure that if nothing approaches so nothing bad would happen in any case?

Anonymous February 19, 2012 at 2:15 am (Edit) I suspect that the warning may be their to keep people from installing permanent equipment installations. Light fixtures, well water pumps, etc. I do not think anything should happen if you do not physically touch the box with the mower.

lilly101200 February 19, 2012 at 10:06 am (Edit) Can I safely keep an electric lawn mower under my deck with a lawn mower cover on it? Can get a Black & Decker electric mower for the price of a walk behind gas mower but dont know that it will fit in my garage with my car.

brian m February 21, 2012 at 10:52 pm (Edit) Electric mower on a steep incline? I have a back yard that has a steep incline, probably about 30 degrees. The power electic mower is very heavy to maneuver, can tip sideways being top heavy when going across and cant make it up the hill. A hand push reel mower doesnt work very well either. I am considering trying an electric mower. Will that work? I cant afford to have a company come and mow my lawn. Any suggestions other than letting die and make my life easier? Thanks
