A Daughter of God

Relationships Raise your hand if youre somebodys sister. Raise your hand if youre somebodys niece. Raise your hand if youre somebodys mother. Raise your hand if youre somebodys sister-in-law. Raise your hand if youre somebodys cousin. Raise your hand if youre somebodys daughter. All daughters have a father and a mother (whether or not they are alive, and whether or not they live with you). We are going to focus today on the Father-Daughter relationship. *Show picture of father and daughter Lets imagine what the best ideal father-daughter relationship would be like.

Why did Heavenly Father put us into families on this earth? He patterned earth life after the way things were set up in heaven. So just as we all have an earthly father and mother here, we all have a Heavenly Father and Mother in heaven where we are all sisters. *Hang up Daughter of God sign and show big picture I want you to think about your relationship as a daughter of your Heavenly Father as I play this hymn for you. The words are on the back of your handout. *Play O My Father, hymn 292 Our Heavenly Father had great love for us in our premortal estate. He is truly the Father of our spirits and we are his children. He nurtured us and taught us and he knows us very well.

You Were and Are Loved The Lord posed an interesting question to Job that caused him to reflect about his beginnings. Read Job 38:4-7 What time of eternal history is referred to in this scripture? Why did the stars sing together and the children of God shout for joy? What answer should Job, or you, give to the Lords question, Where wast thou? *Read the Bruce R. McConkie quote Every young woman was loved by her Father in Heaven in the premortal existence. His love is eternal and unchanging. You are also loved now by your Heavenly Father. What are some blessings you have that show that your Heavenly Father loves you? (Refer to the chart) Were going to read 4 scriptures that show some blessings Heavenly Father has promised us to meet our needs: Read John 14:16-18 (comfort) Read Jacob 4:10 (guidance and counsel) Read Matthew 7:7-11 (help with solving problems, understanding) Read John 3:16 (Gods greatest evidence of His love) Why do you think it is important to know and understand that we are daughters of our Heavenly Father? *Read the Marion G. Romney quote *Read the Harold B. Lee quote How do we show appreciation to our Heavenly Father? (by being obedient, by showing gratitude) How do we confide in and counsel with our Heavenly Father? (In prayer) How do we learn from our Heavenly Father? (By studying his word in the scriptures, by listening to his prophets, and by listening after praying) How do we show our love for Heavenly Father? ( Read John 14:15, Matthew 25:40, and Mosiah 2:17 - by keeping his commandments and by serving others)

Read D&C 88:63 Closing Heavenly Father truly desires us to come near him. By our actions and choices we determine the strength of the relationship we have with Him. He will never turn away. We are here to be tested and he is always there for us. If we do his will and pray for guidance, we will know the path our lives should follow and be assured that we are daughters of God who are truly loved by our Father.
