NEWSFEAT Carbajal heads relief and gift-giving programs By Huemer O.

Uy After being crowned as Miss Kagay-an 2011, Ms Angel G. Carbajal, a fourth year student of Capitol University College of Nursing successfully headed Gasa: A Christmas Project for the Benefit of the Children of Brgy. Mambuaya and the Kagay-anon Flood Victims last December 19 and 21, 2011. Carbajal, along with the Miss Kagay-an 2011 winners, who are collectively known as Miss Kagay-an 2011 and the Court, organized a team of volunteers known as The Chaste Agenda. The said team of volunteers is composed of active students from different schools and colleges in Cagayan de Oro city, which aimed to support the projects of Ms Carbajal in promoting tourism and education in the city. Gasa (the local term for blessing) then became the first project of The Chaste Agenda. The project originally focused on the gift-giving programs and medical missions at Barangay Mambuaya during the planning and preparation phase. However, after the calamity brought about by typhoon Sendong, Carbajal opted to extend the scope of the project and included the Kagay-anon flood victims as their beneficiaries. The Chaste Agenda started their relief distribution at the selected areas last December 19, 2011. Among the recipients are more than 150 people along the Burgos Street of Cagayan de Oro City who received their share of arrozcaldo

and more than 230 residents of Tibasak in Brgy. Macasandig who received food and clothing. In coordination with the local officials of Brgy Mambuaya, the Chaste Agenda launched the gift-giving program at the said baranggay last December 21, 2011. More than 230 children of Brgy. Mambuaya received their gifts, which were composed of toys, school supplies, books and clothes. The children also received some products coming from the projects major sponsors. After the program, Ms Carbajal turned over books and supplies to Mambuaya Elementary School. After the event at Brgy. Mambuaya, the team then proceeded to Brgy. Consolacion to distribute relief goods in front of their baranggay hall. More than 200 residents of the said baranggay received food, water and clothes. Different recognized campus organizations of CU such as the Philippine Nursing Students Association, Capitol University Parliamentary Debate Society, College of Nursing Performing Arts Group and Capitol Chronicle sent student volunteers as their representatives. Unilab Biogesic, Xavier University HighSchool batch 95, Cong. Benjamin Benaldo and Capitol University administration served as the Major Sponsors of the event.
