1. General introduction to Chinese characters Chinese characters are a written language that transcribes spoken Chinese. Because they occupy a square shape' n'e call them "square-shaped characters". Each Chinese character is composed of ser-eral diflerent strokes, and the number of strokes varies greatly with each different character. The chinese character is one of the oldest writing systems in the world. During its 1on-s histon. the shape they'have taken has evolved continuously, but at the core it remains the same as u-hen it u as first invented.
