Shepherding Groups are far more than Sunday School. They are becoming one of the primary ways we serve each other and the community. Below is the role of Shepherding Groups in our church.

Todays Sermon:

New Shepherding Groups

Michael Perdue, our outreach pastor will begin a new shepherding group today. Pastor Michael is co-founder of our church. He also directs Hope for Lafayette and is expanding out mercy ministries daily. He has been married for twelve years and has one child. He is currently working on his Masters of Theology from Reformed Theological Seminary. If you havent yet, now would be the perfect time to join a Shepherding Group. Jim Allen will also be starting a Shepherding Group today. Jim has been faithfully married to his wife Judy for over 34 years. He is a retired pastor with over two-decades of Ministerial service and experience. He does a large amount of our marriage and grief counseling. He also continues to be a trusted voice of wisdom around our church. If you havent joined a group yet, now would be a great time.

A Peculiar Perspective on Pain

To give the vision of CBC a natural, functional and practical expression. To provide the environment for the mission of the church to be most effectively carried out. The mission is best carried out in smaller groups. To equip the saints for the work of the ministry. To multiply and develop leadership of the church. To give intentionality to the good intentions of the church. To keep the church close-knit.

Life in the Valley: The Christians Peculiar Perspective on Pain (from James 1)
The Psalmist writes, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For You are with me. Your rod and your staff comfort me." For many this is a rote prayer and a trite religious expression. But for those who have walked the dark road it has been comfort to know that they are not alone. However, Psalm 23 does present a problem. If God is with us, why are we in the valley? Should we not be atop the mountain peaks? Shouldn't we, the blessed, be experiencing the best? Starting this morning, Pastor Brandon will be looking at the topic of suffering. We will, with the help of Jesus, James and Job, be tackling some of the toughest questions regarding pain. Why me? Why now? How do I cope? Who is to blame? We will see in the end that the Christian perspective on pain is radically unique from any other perspective this world has to offer. We will look into the face of suffering with all the realism and hope that the Bible offers. But, most of all we will look into the face of the one who came to us and suffered on our account. Maybe you know someone who has suffered? Maybe you are in the valley yourself? Maybe you arent suffering at the moment but would like preparation to face the storm ahead? Whatever your situation, I encourage you to make every effort to be faithful in attendance. My prayer is that we would be a church that suffers rightly. On Mission, Pastor Brandon
