Newsletter Comment The New Covenant is an new agreement GOD has made with man-
kind, bosed on fhe deofh ond resurrecfion of Jesus Chrisf. This originofed wifh 0OD's Promise
through the prophet Jeremiah; that GOD would accomplish for HIS people, what the old cove-
nant had failed to do (Jer 31:31). Under this new covenant, GOD would write HIS Law on hu-
man hearts - necessitating of us a new level of obedience, a new knowledge of the LORD and a
new forgiveness of sin. The New Testament (which means new covenant) depicts the work of
Jesus Christ as bringing this new covenant into being. Jesus is called the Mediator of the New
Covenonf (Heb 9:Ib & IZ:Z4). Hebrews 8:o sfofes fhof fhe new covenonf is "o beffer covenonf
,... esfobIished on beffer promises", which resfs direcfIy on fhe socrificioI work of Chrisf. The
new covenant accomplished what the old could not: removal of sin and cleansing of the con-
science (Heb 10:2 & 22). The work of Jesus Christ on the cross thus makes the old covenant
obsoIefe (Heb 8:I3) ond fuIfiIs 0OD's Promise fhrough fhe prophef Jeremioh. Luke ZZ:Z0 ond
2 Corinthians 3:6 tells us that those who believe in Jesus Christ are people of a new and better
covenant - chosen of 0ODl Our porf in fhis new covenonf requires fhof we be o porf of Chrisf's
sacrifice. Our sacrifice is to self. We are also called to worship and to be witnesses of Jesus
