Project 1 Measurement: 1) Draw on graph paper (using a ruler and pencil) a large rectangle. With the ruler measure the length and width of the rectangle. 2) Inside the rectangle draw a set of rectangles. The rectangle must have different lengths and width Eq:
3. Cut out the rectangles and label them A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H as shown in the diagram. 4. Measure the length and width of each triangle with a ruler. 5. Calculate a) The area of the large rectangle b) The area of the rectangles A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H and record your answers on a table. c) The total area of all the rectangles.
d) Paste the rectangles in order of size from the smallest to the largest on a sheet of thin cardboard.
Materials needed: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Sheets of plain paper Ruler Thin sheet of cardboard Scotch tape/paste Pencil Coloured Markers Pair of scissors Graph sheets
6. What are your conclusions with respect to the area of the large triangle and the total area of the smaller triangles?

Project 2 Grade 8 Explain in your own words what you understand by the term Reflection in Geometry ( Transformation) When carrying out a reflection of the object in the X and Y axis, what is usually observed? Using a scale of 1 cm to 1 unit on the both the axes plot the point P(0,0), Q(2,4) and R(5,7) and join them to form a triangle. Reflect the triangle PQR in the Y- axis and write down the coordinated of PQR . What do you observe about the points of triangle PQR and Triangle PQR. Using a scale of 1 cm to 1 unit on the both the axes plot the point A(-2,-1), B(-3,-2) C (-5,-6) and D (0,-5). Repeat step 4 and 5.
