English IV Poetry Journal Quarter 4 Introduction: For this assignment you are going to create a poetry journal.

This will be a collection of all the poetry work we do in the next week. It will include Poem Analyses, Original work and your choice of favorite poems. This poetry journal will display all different types of poems and your understanding of them. Parts of Journal: y Title page (Original title, name and date) y An illustrated cover y Table of Contents y Poem Analyses (Alliteration, Imagery and Symbolism) y Original work---including Epitaph, Rhyme poem, Symbolism poem, Acrostic, Autobiography, Metaphor poem. (Includes photos) y Favorite Hip Hop Poem and why y Favorite classic poem and why You will be graded on: y Spelling and Grammar y Organization y Neatness y Complete work y Effort Assignment: y For Alliteration, Imagery and Symbolism you will be given a packet of worksheets. Within these worksheets you will complete what it asks for. Two of the elements require you to analyze a hip hop poem and a classic poem. The other has you analyze the poetry element itself. Complete what is asked of you on these worksheets. y Epitaph- You will create an epitaph for you. I will give you a handout which will walk you through what an epitaph is and how to create one. Then you will write your own on a sheet of paper. Remember that this goes on a headstone, so be creative when presenting your work. Include a picture that you feels represent the poem. y Rhyme poem- You will create three types of rhyming poems, an End rhyme, Internal rhyme and Half rhyme. These poems do not have to be long, about two stanzas (4 lines each). Decide how you will creatively display your poems and remember to include a picture that you feel represents the poem. y Symbolism Poem- You will create a Symbolism poem about the subject of your choice. Remember you will have completed the symbolism analysis, so keep those ideas in mind. I will give you a worksheet to help you build your poem. Autobiographical Poem- You will create a poem all about you. I will give you a handout with the format needed for the poem. If you decide to fill in the handout as you write, remember you must write it all out on a different sheet of paper. Use the handout to plan, not to present your final poem. I will give you a handout that will explain the process to write one and will provide you with examples. This is a poetry journal. So all of these assignments will be put together to form a journal. Keep this in mind when creating each of your poems.
