Introduction to Crystal Reports Server 2008 What is Crystal Reports Server 2008?
Crystal Reports Server 2008 is a server-side installation. This means that you install it on one central server rather than on each user's machine. Users then access Crystal Reports Server from their individual machines through the web portal interface, known as InfoView. Before you begin, see "System requirements" section to ensure that you have the necessary components installed and configured correctly. If you want to perform basic installation, go to Performing new installation of Crystal Reports Server 2008 on page 11. If you want to configure a database separately for Crystal Reports Server 2008 before you begin your installation, see Configuring the existing database server on page 16.
System requirements
The following components must be installed and configured correctly on the server, before you install Crystal Reports Server 2008: Windows operating system Internet Explorer or Firefox Web server software
For a detailed list of tested environments, see the Platforms.txt file included with your product distribution. This file includes information about specific version and Service Pack requirements for web servers, web browsers, web application servers, databases, and operating systems. For more information pertaining to deployment, see the Crystal Reports Server 2008 Release Notes included with the product distribution (re lease.pdf, release.htm, or release.rtf).

to add any shared Business Objects product files. If this common directory is on the system drive, the drive containing your operating system files automatically installs the shared files in this directory. To install several Business Objects products on a non-system drive, you must first install Crystal Reports Server 2008. All Business Objects products that you subsequently install will use the same non-system drive for the shared files.

The "Choose Language Packs" screen appears. 7. Select the language packs you want to install and click Next.
Note: You can select All Languages, if you want to install all the available
language packs. The "Install Type" screen appears. 8. Select one of the following options: Install MySQL Database Server, if you do not have a database server, and move to Step 9. Use an existing database server, if you want to use the existing database server.

For information and instructions on how to use an existing database server, see Configuring the existing database server on page 16. 9. Select Enable servers upon installation, if you want to automatically launch the Crystal Reports Server 2008 once the installation process is complete. Use Browse to specify the Destination Folder 10. Click Next to continue with the installation.
Note: If you have chosen to configure existing database server as CMS
for the new installation of Crystal Reports Server 2008, see the section Configuring the existing database server on page 16. After performing the steps mentioned in "Configuring the existing Database Server", return to this procedure and continue the installation. 11. In the "Server Components Configuration" screen, specify a port number in the CMS port field. 12. Specify a password for the CMS administrator account in the Password and Confirm password fields.
Tip: You can opt to skip this step - select the Configure the Crystal
Reports Server 2008 Administrator password at a later time. 13. Click Next to continue with the installation setup.

The "Server Intelligence Agent" screen appears. 14. Specify the node name and the port number in Node Name and Port fields. 15. Click Next to continue with installation setup. The "MySQL Database Server Configuration" screen appears. 16. Specify the port number for the MySQL database server in the MySQL Port Number field.
The default CMS port number is 6400. The default port number is 3306. Use this port number unless this port is unavailable. 17. Specify a password for the MySQL root user account in the Password and Confirm password fields in the MySQL root User Accountpane. 18. Select Enable remote root access to activate remote root access to the database server. 19. Specify a password for the MySQL BusinessObjects user account in the Password and Confirm password fields in the MySQL BusinessObjects User Account pane, and click Next.

The "Select Web Application Server" screen appears. 20. Select one of the following options: Use a pre-installed Web Application Server, if you choose to use a pre-installed Tomcat Application Server. Install Tomcat application server, if you choose to install Tomcat application server, and proceed to next step.
If you have chosen to use a pre-installed Web Application Server, see the section Selecting the Tomcat Application Server configuration option on page 18
Note: If you choose to use a pre-installed Web Application Server, then
enter valid Application Server credentials, otherwise the validation will fail. 21. Click Next. The "Configure Tomcat" screen appears. 22. Accept the default values, or specify new port numbers for Connection port, Shutdown port, and Redirect port.

is displayed. To continue, you must specify unused and valid port numbers. The "Start Installation" screen appears. 24. Click Next. The installation of Crystal Reports Server 2008 begins. Wait till the installation is complete. 25. Click Finish. The new installation of Crystal Reports Server 2008 is complete.

3. Select Reset existing database to delete all current tables and entries in the existing database. 4. Click Next to continue with the installation setup. The "Select Web Application Server" screen is displayed. This screen only displays if a connection is established with the database configuration you provided.

After performing all the above mentioned steps, go back to Performing new installation of Crystal Reports Server 2008 on page 11, and continue the installation procedure.
Preparing to install Crystal Reports Server 2008 Performing client tools installation
The "License Agreement" screen is displayed. 5. Select I accept the License Agreement, and click Next. The "Choose Language Packs" screen is displayed. 6. Select the Language Packs you want to install with the client tools, and click Next. The language packs currently available for installation include: English French Japanese German Spanish Italian Chinese Simplified Chinese Traditional Korean Dutch Swedish Portuguese (Brazil)
Note: English is a required language and is automatically selected. Tip: Select the All Languages box to select all the available language

7. Specify the installation directory for the client tools in Destination Folder, and click Next. The "Select Features" screen is displayed. 8. Select the feature you want to install, under the "Crystal Reports Server 2008 Client Tools" node.
Note: Click '+' to expand the node.
You can do any of the following: Specify that the selected feature must installed on the local hard drive. Specify that the selected feature and its subfeatures must installed on the local hard drive. Specify that a selected feature and its subfeatures must not be installed.

Description The feature and only the subfeatures you select will be installed on the local hard drive you specified in the Setup program. The feature and all its subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive you specified. The feature or subfeature is either unavailable or will not be installed.
The following steps are optional: a. Click Disk Cost to calculate if sufficient disk space is available for the selected features. A screen is displayed indicating storage space available on the local machine and mapped network drives. Drives that do not have enough disk space for the currently selected features are highlighted. Click OK to return to the "Select Features" screen. b. Click Reset to revert to the original configuration of the feature list. 9. Click Next. The "Start Installation" screen is displayed. 10. Click Next. The installation process begins. 11. Click Finish when the installation is complete.

Scheduling You can run Crystal reports automatically at certain specified times such as daily, weekly, hourly, or on any predefined business calendar. The report that is created is saved by the system and can be viewed by users at any time. For more information on Scheduling, see BusinessObjects Enterprise Security Concepts in the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administrator's Guide.
Security Crystal Reports Server 2008 enables you to set the security to prevent unauthorized access to the system. It contains it's own Enterprise authentication method and also supports third-party Windows NT, LDAP, and Active Directory authentication. For more information on security, see BusinessObjects Enterprise Security Concepts in the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administrator's Guide.
Viewers Report Viewers display Crystal reports pages in the users' web browsers. There are different Report Viewers available. For more information on Viewers, see "Report Viewers" section in the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administrator's Guide.
Import Wizard The Import Wizard is a locally installed tool that enables administrators to import users, groups, folders, and reports from an existing BusinessObjects Enterprise, Crystal Enterprise, or Crystal Info implementation to Crystal Reports Server 2008. For more information on Import Wizard, see Importing Objects to BusinessObjects Enterprise in the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administrator's Guide.
Publishing Wizard The Publishing Wizard is a locally installed tool that enables administrators and users to add Crystal reports to Crystal Reports Server 2008.

Data Source Migration Wizard The Data Source Migration Wizard is a tool that enables you to migrate Crystal reports that are based on Crystal queries, dictionaries, and Business Views to Crystal Reports Server 2008. For more information on Data Source Migration Wizard, see Data Source Migration Wizard Help. Diagnostic Tool The Deployment Diagnostic Tool is a Java-based application designed to verify basic operating functionality of a Crystal Reports Server 2008 installation. It is an open-framework utility that allows for the development of additional test drivers through the use of various SDKs provided by Business Objects.
