4.
Place
the
platform
piece
on
top
of
the
porridge
mixture,
allowing
it
to
sit
about
level
with
the
top
edge
of
the

5.
Roll
the
roller
atop
the
wood
platform
to
compress
the
charcoal.
This
can
be
done
multiple
times
both
ways
to
make
sure
the
charcoal
is
fully
compressed.
6.
Roll
the
roller
off
of
the
charcoal
and
set
it
aside.
7.
Remove
the
wood

rope
part
from
atop
the

Diameter of rope may vary, but no more than 1.5 cm diameter is needed. Size varying depending on availability. Eight needed in design, and two more for extra support.
Once the materials are gathered, the user may now proceed to construct the device. By following these steps, the user will have a fully functional charcoal roller press. Constructing Roller Device: For the roller press device, the materials for part numbers 1,5, 6, and 8 will be required. Step 1: Drill Holes in Barrel Using a drill, create holes in the top and bottom of the barrel in the center of the barrel. The dimensions of these holes should be 40mm in diameter. Step 2: Attach connecting shaft to barrel Take the 40 mm diameter pipe and using a grinder, cut the pipe to 1.1 meters in length. Then, insert the pipe through the barrel, allowing 10.55 cm of pipe exposed on each side of the barrel. Using a welder, weld the pipe (shaft) to
Step-by-Step Construction
Step 3: Constructing handle Using a saw, take the 2x4 lumber and cut 3 pieces of 1 meter long lumber. Using your drill, create holes (of diameter 45 mm in one end and 42 diameter in the other) in 2 of these pieces. These holes are to be positioned approx. 5.0 cm away from the ends of the 2x4. With your holes made, attach the end of your handle piece with the 45mm hole to the connecting shaft (shaft inserted through your barrel). Move the handle approx. 3 cm from the end of the connecting shaft. Secure this in place by drilling through the connecting shaft (with a metal drill bit) and insert the bolt through this hole to prevent the handle from slipping off of the shaft. NOTE: The hole made in the connecting shaft will have to be same size as the bolt. Repeat this step for the other side of the shaft. NOTE: Notice that the 45mm holes are slightly bigger than the connecting shaft. This diameter difference is to allow the barrel and shaft to rotate and allow the handle to move freely. In the other holes at the top of your 2 handle pieces attached to your barrel, you may now insert your cylindrical handle piece into these holes. This cylindrical handle piece of 40mm diameter should be cut to approximately 1040 mm. To secure the handle in place, carpenters glue may be used. Platform Construction: For the platform device, the materials for part numbers 7 and 9 will be required. Step 1: Drilling holes in platform pieces and assembly With your platform pieces (part no. 7), you will need to drill 3 holes in your 2x4; One hole in the center and one at each end of the 2x4s (approx. 44 mm from the end) to enable a rope to travel through to connect each piece of the platform. Once your holes are made, tie a knot in the end of each of the rope, and run the rope through the holes similar to the pattern in drawing number 6. Once the 14 pieces of platform are on the rope, tie another knot in each end of the 3 ropes to minimize the distance between each piece of platform. Your platform is now complete. Base Construction:
the barrel, creating a perfect seal along the circumference of the shaft where the shaft and barrel come in contact.
For the base, the materials for part numbers 2 and 3 will be required. Nails or screws will also be required for this step. Step 1: Cutting and assembling base With the 2x6 lumber, the proper length can be cut. In two of the 2x6s, a length of 1.5 meters should be cut, and in the other 2 pieces, the lumber should be cut to a length of 0.9 meters. By assembling the base so that it is similar to drawing number 10, the base is now ready to be put into the ground. Step 2: Hole in ground Since the base is about 5 and a half inches off the ground it can be difficult to roll the roller into the platform, to solve this problem the user can dig a hole roughly around the height of the base pieces. This way the user may role the barrel smoothly over the platform.
