Re:

Rotary Coupler Wiring Fracture

Dear Colleagues It is possible that the wires that connect the driver's airbag module to the rotary coupler on Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3/LR3 vehicles could fracture. This may lead to an open circuit and the SRS warning light being illuminated on the instrument cluster. The wiring that connects the rotary coupler to the driver's air bag module may fracture as a result of relative motion between the rotary coupler and the steering wheel hub. This relative motion may be caused by factors such as internal friction within the rotary coupler assembly and friction caused by contact of the steering column cowl against the rotary coupler. Rotary coupler internal friction is caused by distortion of the steering column switch mounting platform as a consequence of mis-alignment of a location point on the steering column assembly. Action to be taken At the next available service opportunity you are requested to carry out a modification to the affected vehicles. The workshop procedure is attached as Appendix 1. Please ensure that you check DDW to ensure that the vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to undertaking any rework action. DDW will be updated to reflect only those vehicles affected. Should you need a listing of the affected vehicles please contact the Land Rover Field Actions team at jlrcamp@jaguarlandrover.com. All requests should be made via the National Sales Company only. At the time of confirming a booking for vehicle repair, please ensure that all outstanding Field Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated for repairs to be completed at one visit.
