Twenty LCCS cadets and senior officers got a chance recently to meet with shooters who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The shooters, members of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), had come to the Centralia Rifle Club on January 28th to meet with members of the W. F. West and Centralia High School rifle teams. The Army shooters included Sgt. Glenn Eller, who won the Olympic gold medal in trap shooting, and Specialist Jeffrey Holguin, who placed fourth. The two shotgun experts shared tips on preparing your mind for competitive shooting, pointing out that all types of shooting competitions share this requirement. The cadets also got some shooting tips on rifle marksman-

Specialist Jeffery Holguin tells cadets and rifle team members about shooting in the Olympics while gold Medalist, Sgt Glenn Eller, looks on.

The shooters also brought along a selection of shooting oriented video games for the cadets to try. Reports from cadets attending indicated that the afternoon was a big hit. C/TSgt Kayla Hughes, who is also a member of the Centralia HS rifle team, said, "This was great!" C/CMSgt Jonathan Peterson added that the most important thing I learned was to prepare my mind first before the physical. This event was coordinated by Lt Col Steve Carmick, who is also the Coach of the WF WEST High School rifle team.
