According to the received message the controller will switch on / off the relays. The device is password controlled, therefore only the people who know the device password is capable to control the device. In the security systems the device is connected to sensor like PIR sensors. When somebody tries to enter forcibly in the house, the PIR sensor connected to the door will detect the presence of person, and it will give an interrupt to the microcontroller, which, according to the program loaded in flash the controller will find out from which sensor the interrupt had came, then it will sent SMS to the owners mobile or police by retrieving the phone numbers from memory. (The owners mobile number and police number is stored in memory)

INTRODUCTION

There are many devices used in our home for some needs. For e.g. Fan, TV, Geysers. Some times when we go out and we forget to switch off the devices and it comes to our mind, when we are half the way. It will run all the day until we switch off. The main aim of this project is to Switch on \ off devices through GSM modem. It can be used to switch appliances from any distance, overcoming the limited range of infrared and radio remote controls. This can be used to switch on \ off up to nine appliances. For e.g. 1 can be used for on and 2 for off. For switching on or off the devices, what we have to do is to send a code to the SIM inserted in the GSM modem. The GSM modem receives the code and asks the microcontroller to take the required action. II.
WORKING PRINCIPLE

A. Wireless Sensor Network Node Modlue The wireless sensor network in home of this system iscomposed of one center node module and several data collecting node modules, operating in point-to-multipoint communication mode. In different application, the formation of a WSN node is not always the same. In general, a WSN node includes four parts: data collecting unit, data processing unit, wireless communication unit and power management unit as illustrated in Fig.

The device consists of GSM modem, microcontroller, sensors, relays, memory. If the user wants to control some devices in his house he/she have to send the SMS indicating the operation of the device and then the system password, while the MODEM embedded with the system microcontroller receives SMS.The microcontroller will read SMS and check for the password the user had sent with the SMS, the passwords are stored in memory, so the microcontroller will read the password from memory and compares with the message password. If the password is correct then it will check whether the message is for switch

. The PIC16F877 can be operated in Four Different oscillator modes. The user can program two configuration bits FOSC1 and FOSC0 to select one of these four modes. *LP - Low Power crystal *XT - crystal / resonator *HS - High speed crystal/resonator *RC - Resistor capacitor The clock we have used is 10 MHZ which full under HS category. MCLR/VPP: This is master clear input pin to the IC. A logic low signal will generate a reset signal to the microcontroller. So we have tied this pin to VCC for the proper operation of the microcontroller. TXD and RXD: To communicate with the outside world the microcontroller has an inbuilt USART. The O/P and I/P line from the USART is taken and given to a MAX232 IC for having communication with the PC. Since we have used comport for interfacing the microcontroller. VCC and Ground: Pin no 32, 11 are tied to VCC and pin no 31, 12 are grounded to provide power supply to the chip.

.
B.MICROCONTROLLER

The PIC Microcontroller board consists of circuits necessary to operate a Microcontroller with PC interface. The board contains provisions for interfacing 8 analog inputs and 23 Digital level signals. The description of the circuit is given below. Analog inputs: Pin no 2 to 10 can be used to connect any analog signals of range 0-5v. Digital signals: As mentioned in the circuit the pin outs from the port is taken to a 26 pin FRC connector through which we can connect our Digital level signals 0 or 5 volts.

C. RELAYS Relays are electromagnetic switches used as protective devices, indicating devices and as transmitting devices. Protective relay protect good component from the effects of the circuit components that have failed. Transmission relay are used in communication systems. Indicating relay may be used to identify a component which has failed. Transmission relay may be used to identify a component which has failed.

The relay is one of the most widely used components in industrial electronic. In combination with transistors, electron tubes and other circuits elements, this electromagnetic device performs countless tasks.

Pin Diagram Of MAX 232 E.GSM MODEM(900/1800 MHz) Relay circuit D.MAX 232 The Max 232 is a dual RS-232 receiver / transmitter that meets all EIA RS232C specifications while using only a +5V power supply. It has 2 onboard charge pump voltage converters which generate +10V and 10V power supplies from a single 5V power supply. It has four level translators, two of which are RS232 transmitters that convert TTL\ CMOS input levels into + 9V RS232 outputs. The other two level translators are RS232 receivers that convert RS232 inputs to 5V TTL\CMOS output level. These receivers have a nominal threshold of 1.3V, a typical hysterics of 0.5V and can operate up to + 30V input. 1. Suitable for all RS232 communications. 2. +12V power supplies required. 3. Voltage quadruples for input voltage up to 5.5V (used in power supply Section of computers, peripherals, and modems). Three main sections of MAX232 are 1. A dual transmitter 2. A dual receiver 3. +5V to + 10V dual charge pump voltage converter. Programming The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. It is the European standard for digital cellular service that includes enhanced features. It is based on TDMA technology and is used on 850/1900 MHz. We are using the GM28, a GSM modem from SonyEricsson. This is a powerful +GSM/GPRS Terminal with compact and self-contained unit. This has standard connector interfaces and has an integral SIM card reader. The modem has a RJ9 connector through which a speaker and microphone can be connected allowing audio calls being established, but this feature is not utilized in this project as only data transfer is needed. Following are few technical details of the modem. INTERFACES: Data: RS232 9way (V.28) Power and Extended I/Os: 5 32VDC (RJ11) Audio 4-wire Handset Interface (RJ9) Antenna: 50_ (FME male) SIM card reader: 3V/5V interface with SIM detection FEATURES: ME + SIM phone book management read/write/find, call screening, groups SIM Application Toolkit Class 2 Real Time Clock Software upgradeable Audio control Fixed dialing number UCS2 16 bit data supported

Internal Block Diagram Of GSM Modem F.SIM CARD READER The TT4030 (SE-GM28) is fitted with a SIM card reader designed for 3 V and 5 V SIM cards. It is the flip-up type, which is lockable in the horizontal position and is accessed through a removable panel. The SIM card reader includes a SIM presence switch. This ensures that when a SIM card is inserted or removed while the TT4030 (SE-GM28) is turned ON, it will reset.

CONCLUSION

WIRELESS HOME AUTOMATION AND SECURITY SYSTEM USING GSM MODEM is developed mainly for automation the home appliances. The project has features like switching on/off the home appliances With the help of this device we can operate the devices like fan, light, television etc from any part of the world. It can be used to switch appliances from any distance, overcoming the limited range of infrared and radio remote controls. . These devices are operated with help of cell phone. The status of device can seen noticed in computer also This can be further developed and can be used in the industries for operating the machinery. In this project in future we can add a multimedia camera to see what is going inside the home by sitting in office or somewhere. V. REFERENCES
