18 November 2008

A reason for the unprecedented interest in the recent US presidential election is its importance
for the United States’ position in the world and in particular how the new president will
manage the financial crisis in the US. How will his actions over the next four years influence
the nature of the economic system in the US? What will the new president’s policies be
toward Africa and the Middle East? And how will the new president manage uncertainty in
countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan? This important and exciting workshop will explain
how and why Barack Obama won the election. But it will also suggest answers to these
questions.
