GUIDELINES FOR POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS GENERAL Each group will be given a maximum of 20 minutes to deliver the presentation.

. Extension will not be allowed and the panel memberrs will be given instructions to strictly observe the time limit. Presenters should use PowerPoint (see sections II and III for the specific guidelines). Based on experience, a 20-minute Powerpoint presentation will use not more than 15 slides (each side having not more than six lines and each line consisting of not more than seven words). Contents of the slides should not be read. A script should be presented for each slide. The script can be read. Each presenter should rehearse and see to it that his/her or the presentation is within allotted time. I. KEY PRINCIPLES IN PREPARING THE POWERPOINT SLIDES1 Put the presentation into proper context and perspective Abstract Statement of the problem Conceptual framework based on the related literature gathered Primary and secondary data used Treatment of data Findings and conclusions Recommendations Use slides as visual aids Ideas should be distilled into key messages and main points Each slide should provide a speaking framework- not present the entire speech Using too much text, complex figures, or excessive clip art reduce the impact of the message Be consistent The same template should be used for the entire presentation Backgrounds, fonts, colors, or animation effects should be the same for all slides

Use contrasting colors Use effective color combinations (e.g., yellow against navy blue background or navy blue and red against white background) Use large font sizes Refrain from decreasing the font size to squeeze more texts onto a slide, if necessary, edit the text to put it on two slides. Polish the presentation Double-check the slides for consistency of format and typographical errors Whenever possible, practice with the projector and computer that will be used before the presentation Time the presentation to ensure that it is within the limit. Be prepared As a backup, prepare the presentation on transparencies in case the LCD projector fails Know the lighting situation A dark screen (blue background) projects well in a dimly lit or dark room A light screen (light background) projects well in a very dark room Light background is generally better in most conditions III.
