I would like to take a moment to formally introduce myself to you. My name is Ms.

Tiffany, and I have been part of the Pine Island Montessori family for five years. Both my boys have been through Pine Island Montessoris Toddler room, my youngest about to graduate from VPK, and my oldest has entered first grade here at PIM. Some of you may already know me from my volunteer work with the PTO here at school. Enriching childrens school experience is a passion of mine. Another passion of mine is books and reading. Because research shows us time and time again just how important books and reading are to children, I have based my curriculum on popular childrens books. Each month the curriculum will focus on 2 different storybooks. The activities will coordinate with the themes of each book, as well. Just think, each month your child will not only be exposed to a comprehensive, stimulating, age-appropriate preschool curriculum, but lots of childrens literature, as well. Chances are, with this exposure, your child will begin to develop a lifelong love of reading. The Toddler age is one of the most exciting age groups for me. I am super excited to introduce the Itty-Bitty Bookworm Curriculum to this great group of students. I am a believer in a strong parent / teacher relationship. My door will always be open, so please feel free to email me, call me, or stop in for a few extra minutes to chat.

The reverse side explains a little more about the Bookworm Curriculum. I have also attached the remainder of Marchs lesson plans, as well as the daily schedule. This way parents can reinforce materials learned in the classroom. The Brain Behind the Bookworm: The Itty-Bitty Bookworm believes that the goal of a preschool curriculum should be to foster and develop the natural curiosities and interests of children in a safe, nurturing environment. This overall goal is achieved by many small steps. First, is the social and emotional well being of the child. Children need the love and appreciation of the adults and peers in their lives. They also need to feel confident in their own abilities. A childs physical needs must be met, as well. Children have to have a safe environment, a healthy body, and frequent opportunities for movement. Language and communication are also very important. Children learn to give and get ideas through listening, talking, and reading. Children need to be able to communicate their ideas to others. Children also need to be immersed in oral and written language. A reading program rich in language and literature should have the following basic skills occurring each day: Chanting and Singing Finger plays and Poems Oral reading by the teachers Naming friends and common objects, animals, etc. Communicating in complete sentences In Cognitive Development children need to be given the opportunity to use the skills of matching, sorting, classifying, and constructing. These skills help them to explore, develop, and investigate the world around them. I hope you find this literature-based preschool curriculum to be educational, creative, and fun for your child.
