Graduates of the Frankfurt School are in great demand worldwide. Many of them rise quickly to achieve top management positions. We place a lot of emphasis on methods, and we consider management know-how to be a sound basis for your future career. A few questions to the Programme Director

as well. In this respect the Frankfurt School doesnt differ much from other international business schools. There is, however, something special about the German approach to business. The country has for many decades maintained a highly competitive economy without neglecting social equality. The German social market economy is characterised by amicable relationships between management, labour and other stakeholders without compromising flexibility and excellence. This has enabled the German economy to corroborate its position as the worlds fourth biggest economy and third biggest exporter. Students at the Frankfurt School will become deeply familiar with the German approach to management concepts that are highly relevant to other contexts, in particular to dynamic emerging markets that strive to maintain not just high growth rates per se but to transform them into inclusive, quality growth. Combining academic learning and practical experience is an important aspect at the Frankfurt School. How do you ensure that students aquire both theoretical and practical knowledge? The Frankfurt School is known for placing great emphasis on the integration of knowledge and practical experience. All our students have to gain work experience during their time here, primarily through internships in Germany and abroad. We also frequently bring in senior executives from banks and multinational companies as guest speakers or adjunct faculty. Finally, we regularly invite outstanding personalities for talks at our campus because we want our students to be exposed to these people and their ideas first-hand.

Dr. Matthias Catn Programme Director

If you had to sum up the Bachelor experience at the Frankfurt School, how would you describe it? We provide a rigorous and very solid academic programme that teaches our students everything they need to know to start their career in business. We believe in laying a solid foundation of relevant knowledge that our graduates can draw upon later in their work. At the same time we expose students to the latest concepts in management thinking. While we demand a lot from our students we support them in every aspect to help them succeed. This makes for a very friendly atmosphere on campus that values team work and collaboration. Our graduates leave not only with a top-class degree but also with friends for life.

Is studying at the Frankfurt School different from doing a Bachelor at another top international business school in, say, the US or the UK? Many of the principles and concepts of management and business administration that students will encounter during their Bachelor studies are taught elsewhere

QUESTIONS TO THE PROGRAMME DIRECTOR

How is the mix between international and German students? We attract both international students and top German students with a global mindset. The percentage of foreign students has been rising over the past years, but Germans still constitute a majority on campus. That being said, the teaching language for the Bachelor programmes Business Administration and International Business Administration is English and the groups are always mixed. Foreign students are integrated quickly by their German counterparts, who are eager to make them feel at home. Special initiatives such as FS Buddy also help to settle in. You recently moved to Frankfurt after working in Stockholm and Geneva. Hows life in Frankfurt? Frankfurt is easily Germanys most international city. Home to many banks and financial institutions and to Europes third biggest airport, foreigners have been a part of the city for a long time. Even if you dont speak German you wont feel out of place. At the same time, Frankfurt is centrally located and an ideal starting point to explore Germany and the neighbouring countries. It is a cosmopolitan place, but not too big to be inconvenient. What are you planning for the Bachelor programmes? We are constantly enhancing our programmes. The Frankfurt School is as dynamic as the world around it. Currently, our aim is to expand the number of coop-

erations with business schools abroad, in particular in emerging countries the markets of the future. Also, we are looking into ways to give students even more possibilities to develop their professional personalities through mentoring, leadership coaching and other tools.

Do you speak German? If so, you may be interested in one of our four Bachelor programs in German: Betriebswirtschaftslehre Dual a Business Administration programme that combines fulltime studies with a job in a bank Wirtschaftsinformatik Business IT, also in combination with a job Betriebswirtschaftslehre mit Schwerpunkt Wirtschaftsprfung a programme with a focus on auditing that we run in collaboration with KPMG Management, Philosophy & Economics if you want a broad perspective on todays challenges without neglecting management skills

QUESTIONS TO THE PROGRAMME DIRECTOR

If you decide to study at the Frankfurt School you can use this network early on to advance your international career. Students of Business Administration spend the fifth semester abroad and students of International Business Administration spend both the fourth and the fifth semester abroad. Our International Office will actively support you in finding a place at one of our partner universities. About a year before you are due to travel abroad, the International Office will invite you and the other students to an information event to clarify questions concerning course requirements, the choice of partner university and costs. The International Office will also handle the formalities connected with the application to your chosen partner university. While you are still in Frankfurt you will already undergo intensive language training, as well as familiarising yourself with specific issues of intercultural communication. You will benefit from Frankfurt School of Finance & Managements global cooperations in other ways, too. New ways of thinking and innovative approaches from our research network are incorporated in the content of our study programmes, ensuring that you always enjoy state-of-the-art professional training. And if you work on one of our international research projects during the programme, you will experience at first hand how important global networking is in the modern world of science.

FS Buddy The idea of FS Buddy is to give our international students some guidance for their start in Frankfurt. For each international student, a German student serves as a personal buddy. Your buddy will usually pick you up at the airport, accompany you to your residence and generally help you settle during the first weeks. FS Buddy also organises several social events and sightseeing tours. The goal is not only to share the German culture but also to experience the specific traditions and cultures of our fellow international students.

We attach great importance to openness, transparency and a climate of mutual respect. While our programmes dont feature scheduled consultations as such, students regularly provide us with valuable feedback. Which means the content and quality of our teaching are also subject to continuous improvement. By being open to your questions and suggestions, we can swiftly identify and implement ways to improve our programmes and optimise our delivery. Lets be clear: we succeed when you succeed.

BEYOND TUITION

Germany land of ideas

Germany is widely acknowledged as the birthplace of the modern university education system. In the early 19th century, Wilhelm von Humboldt proposed that research and teaching should effectively represent two sides of the same coin an educational principle that has successfully established itself worldwide as the basis for scientific collaboration, and is enshrined in the methodology of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. But during your studies in Germany, you will also discover other giants of German intellectual history perhaps while visiting Weimar, the heartland of classical Germany, where the spirit of Goethe and Schiller lives on today, or perhaps while wandering through Beethovens favourite haunts. Germany is a country of many aspects, however. As one of the worlds leading industrial nations, Germanys inventive genius has moved the world for over 150 years literally, in many cases: consider the automobile, for example, invented in Germany back in 1886. Other German innovations include mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, medical technology and, most recently, environmental technology all industries that have had a worldwide impact, along with many others. Today, Frankfurt is the major financial marketplace of continental Europe, home to the

European Central Bank a close neighbour of the Frankfurt School campus, as a matter of fact. Building on the terrible experiences of political failure which led to the Second World War, Germany developed the Social Market Economy as the guiding principle of mediating between business, politics and society, contributing one foundation stone for prosperity and peace in the growing and deepening European community of nations. The Social Market Economy takes for granted the responsible nature of business and its deep-rooted setting in the larger context of concerns for social justice, constructive and inclusive political debate and sustainable ecological development. Germany is a federal system with a large variety of regions, which have distinct traditions in business and social contexts, ranging from coastal states with their long historical tradition of global trade to the southern states with their unique clusters of engineering excellence. You only need to take a few steps to pay a visit to Germanys European neighbours in the east, west, south and north, offering a wealth of different historical legacies, lifestyles and cultures. The diversity of Europe and six decades of internal peace are the root causes of European competitiveness and creativity. The European experience will make a profound impression on you and will exert a lasting positive influence on your own professional life.
