The Employers Duty

The case is about Sulleman who has worked for Speedy Courier for the past three years. An incident happened with him while he was loading his truck. He lifted a box that exceeded the weight limits causing Sulleman back injury. The employee was rushed to the hospital, though no evidence of injury found, but he expressed significant pain in the back and will be off from work for a considerable period. There has been concern over happening of similar events, so this issue has become of greater importance. I see the implanting of the following steps will probably reduce happening of such accidents.

Initially a report of incident should be immediately recorded which on the whole should include the scenario about the working conditions, affected person details, and injury if in case happens.

On the basis of incident recorded, I can then broaden my investigation and even look at any foul played happen or the claims made are genuine. This investigation will also help in determining any other problem associated and hence will help in minimising risk associated with that task.

I will be then on a regular basis will be in touch with the employee to better know the employee condition regarding his availability to work, and whether we require any replacement. Employee follow-up will also fulfil our responsibility and develop a good relation between employees.

On the basis of the above inspection, we can make a record of the process and procedure for further investigation if required in the case. It will also help in recognising the policies and procedure, and whether there is any requirement any

additional training program which will be implemented prior to the approval of senior management. By going through the risk evaluation involved in this case, most importantly I will be able recognise the hazard and direct the employee with expert opinion, so that he can be able to return to work as early as possible or in case situation requires his work would be substituted and some other responsibilities of equal relevance will be handed over which the employee could do it ease.

Conclusion:

According to me I will make sure that workplace safety should be given to priority as it not only affects the regular work, but also hampers the reputation of management because this is not the first case of its kind, as described in the case there have been several incidents involving cases exceeding 12 months. I will also make sure that all the employees are aware of the policies and procedures regarding their health and safety and they properly follow the training programme provided to avoid any such incident further. An another handout will be distributed especially involving these cases, and the prevention measure taken up by the management for e.g. to get rid of such incidents I will get all the boxes or lifting materials labelled with their size and other important information. Regarding the case of Sulleman he will be fully compensated in terms of medical and physical aid required by reporting to W.C.B. He will also be given paid leave to the extent of 45 days in order to heal himself, and after that he can the rejoin with the same or alternative work assigned.
