HOW GREAT THOU ART
Verse 1 O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy powr thru-out the universe displayed! Chorus Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art, How great Thou art! Verse 2 When thru the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, When I look down from lo y mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze. Repeat chorus Verse 3 And when I think that God, His son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin! Repeat chorus Verse 4 When Christ shall come with shout of acclama on And take me home, what joy shall ll my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adora on And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art! SERMON NOTES & PRAYER CONCERNS

Fasting for the Lenten Season - 2012

We are calling for a period of prayer and fas ng for the en re church during the Season of Lent, Ash Wednesday, February 22nd through Resurrec on Sunday April 8, 2012. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil and a er fas ng forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread. Ma hew 4:1-3 Fas ng has been used throughout the ages to prepare the people of God for the great things God has in store for them. As we pray through this season of transi on and Divine imagina on, I am calling, I am asking, I am reques ng the en re church become involved in some form of prayer and fas ng. The following are several types of fasts that can be used to develop spiritual power and clarity. FASTING FOR THE LENTEN SEASON Fast #1 - Fas ng to confront destruc ve forces February 22-February 28 Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m. February 29 March 6 Eat only 2 meals before 6:00 p.m. March 7 - March 13 Eat only 1 meal a day March 14 March 20 Drink only juices, water and or tea March 21 March 27 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 28 April 8 Slowly begin to add meat to your diet Fast #2 The Daniel Fast. Taken from the book of Daniel. When the Babylonians captured Daniel, he asked of the Babylonians if he along with Shadrach, Meschah and Abendego, could fast ea ng only fruits and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront the Babylonian king. February 22-February 28 All meals before 6:00 p.m. February 29 March 6 Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m. March 7 - March 13 Eat only fruits & vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 14 March 20 Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added. March 21 March 27 Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added March 28 April 8 Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m. Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from your diet or life One type of fas ng is to remove certain foods from your diet, such as, fried foods, sweets, sodas or rened sugar and/or our. Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/doctor before beginning a fast that involves restric ng food/ calories and/or medica on. They can help you design a fas ng plan that protects your health and well-being. This is extremely important if you are pregnant or anyone that has a medical condi on. Examples include, but are not limited to, those who have a chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, inammatory bowel disease, recent surgery, etc.

Lenten Meditation
JESUS AS TEACHER FIRST THINGS FIRST
Life involves many choices about priori es. What values guide our decisions as to the goals that come rst for us? Many novels have this as their theme, the adventures of someone whose choice led to problems. There may be a corrupt poli cian who has sought power and fame, or an adventurer who recklessly throws cau on to the wind on some exploit. Less o en, we nd books about a person who has chosen a priority well and pushed through a host of obstacles to accomplish something great. Jesus once helped a person choose priori es, but the inquirer was not happy with Jesus recommenda on. (Mark 10:17-22) A young man, already wealthy, evidently found his life rather empty. He obeyed all the religious precepts and was basically a success, but he felt that he was s ll lacking something. He asked Jesus specically about how to gain eternal life but this was probably not a pursuit of life a er death. He was seeking the eternal quality of life that can make the present more fullling. We are told that Jesus responded to him lovingly, but gave him some harsh advice: Forget your money; give it to the poor, and follow me. Jesus had already made a similar choice. Paul, in his second le er to the Corinthians, says, You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. (8:9) Here is a strong indica on of Jesus priority: People come rst. There is nothing wrong with wealth, but we, and our possessions, should be dedicated to what we can do for humanity, for the people whom God loves. If we are constantly reaching out to our neighbors with loving concern, interested in their lives and ready to help them whenever needed, we will become wonderfully wealthy in spirit. In all our priori zing, human compassion and sharing come rst.

2012 Trinity UCC Theme Walking, Talking and Living Our Faith, Ephesians 4 (NLT)
January Ephesians 4:1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. February Ephesians 4:2 Always be humble and gentle. Be pa ent with each other, making allowance for each others faults because of your love. March Ephesians 4:3 Make every eort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. April Ephesians 4:4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. May Ephesians 4:5-6 There is one Lord, one faith, one bap sm, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all. June Ephesians 4:7 However, he has given each one of us a special gi through the generosity of Christ. July Ephesians 4:11 Now these are the gi s Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. August Ephesians 4:12 Their responsibility is to equip Gods people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. September Ephesians 4:13 This will con nue un l we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of Gods Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. October Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We wont be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be inuenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. November Ephesians 4:15-16 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body t together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. December Ephesians 31-32 Get rid of all bi erness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
