Course Goals:

Course Outline: Educational Planning (ART 102) Spring 2012 The major purpose of this course is to acclimatize the students in university atmosphere and provide them with basic understanding of the educational philosophy of the university along with the developing the personal grooming skills. . Course Description: This course introduces the participants to a modern system of higher education followed at IUBAT in an orderly fashion. The genesis of IUBAT as an organization of higher education is examined in the backdrop of educational environment of Bangladesh. Besides familiarization with the mission and rationale of the organization, reflection is made on the overall purpose of education in human capacity development. Each element constituting the university organization is surveyed for goal delineation and contributions. Such discourse points to the distinctive educational philosophy of the university. The university is examined as a system with inputs, processes, and outputs. Topics covered include the holistic view of the system and its components, input characteristics, details of the processes employed in achieving transformation and the output specification. Efficiency of the system is sought through detailed planning and encouraging participants to contribute to self-development as well as collective learning through planning achievements by resorting to time rationing, objective identification, and methods improvement. Social aspect of learning is emphasized along with personal grooming, presentation skills and adoption of appropriate behavior and etiquette. The course emphasizes active participation and real life practice of subject elements covered.

Course Outcomes and Sub-Outcomes: Participants will develop a clear understanding of the concepts introduced in the course and they will have in-depth knowledge about the educational system in IUBAT and develop plans to cope with the educational and personal development requirements. The course will prepare participants to take control of individual development through academic and extraacademic planning as well as practices. Such planning and real life 2

Course Outline: Educational Planning (ART 102) Spring 2012 practice will help participants to develop knowledge and skills in educational planning, career development, and personal grooming.

Attendance and Participation: Punctual attendance is expected of all students. Also, students should miss a class only if absolutely necessary; i.e., they should not feel they are entitled to a certain number of missed classes. It is also further expected that students will be adequately prepared for all classes and they will participate in them when appropriate.

Academic Offenses: The students and faculty are jointly responsible for the academic standards and reputation of the university. It is well recognized that intellectual honesty is the basic requirement for development and acquisition of knowledge. Intellectual honesty is a pre-requisite for continued membership in the university community. Forms of intellectual dishonesty are plagiarism, cheating in examinations, aiding and abetting cheating, the use of assignment prepared by others, impersonation of another student at an examination, misrepresentation of information, falsification of academic records, and unruly behavior with instructor. If a student is detected by the instructor in committing academic offense, it may result in an F grade for the course or even dismissal of the student from the university. Evaluation: A minimum of 6 announced and unannounced examinations and quizzes, presentation on selected tropics, 1/2 writing assignments, attendance, class participation, maintaining DBC (Dress & Behavior Code of IUBAT) will be the major determinants of students grades.

Miscellaneous : It is a students responsibility to read text assignments before the scheduled classes. It is also recommended that students should spend at least two hours (on the average) preparing for each hour of class time.

Important Instructions for the Students: o Students must maintain the DBC and without following the dress code they will not be allowed in the class. o Inside the class room cell phone must be in silent mode or switched off. o Students have to bring the text book in class. o Students are advised to submit their assignments on time, late submission will not acceptable unless have valid reason. o Students must attend all the scheduled examinations. No retake examinations will be held other than on the medical grounds with authentic medical certificate or in case of an immediate family emergency. o 75% attendance in needed for sitting in the final examination and three consecutive absentee in class may cause of course drop. (May be considered for valid reason)
