Motivation
To be motivated means to be moved to do something. A person who feels no impetus or inspiration to act is thus characterized as unmotivated, whereas someone who is energized or activated toward an end is considered motivated (Ryan & Deci, 2000)
Continuum of Motivation
Intrinsic Motivation
Lies at the end of the motivational continuum Proposed as an explanation as to why people act without a perceived reward Proposed as an explanation for play and althruism
Intrinsic Motivation
Refers to doing an activity or behaviour for its own sake Inherent pleasure or satisfaction derived from participation alone Found to contribute positively to engagement within, and quality of, learning experiences
