EMgt 309 Semester Project: Written and Oral Report Content and Format

WRITTEN REPORT The goal of the written semester project report is to communicate to a technical person (not familiar with your problem or the Six Sigma methodology): an overview of Six Sigma; a clear description of the problem, including current performance issues; what you did; results and conclusions.

A written report should be submitted, which should include the project statement, data collected, analysis, results, solutions, and projected outcomes from implementation of the solutions. The report should have no more than 20 typewritten pages, including tables, graphs, diagrams, and photographs. Project teams can consist of up to three team members. Points will be deducted for reports longer than 20 pages (including appendices). Your report should be organized into the following sections: 1. 2. Title page Introduction - Six Sigma overview - Six Sigma strategy - Total Quality Management Define - Problem statement - Problem goals - Requirements and expectations - Project boundaries - Process flow diagram Measure - Data collection - Baseline the process (mean, median, range, skewness, range, variance, standard deviation, Cp, Cpk, etc.) - Graphically display the data (histograms, Pareto charts, etc.) - Determine the Cost of Poor Quality Analyze Identify gaps between current performance and customer expectations Identify sources of variation (cause and effect diagram, failure mode and effects analysis) Prioritize improvement opportunities Hypothesis testing Process control (run charts, control charts, etc.)

ORAL REPORT The goal of the oral semester project report is to communicate to me, interested technical persons and your classmates the major elements of your written report including: a clear description of the problem, including current performance issues; what you did; results and conclusions.

You should prepare slides using Microsoft PowerPoint. Your presentation should be 20 minutes in length; including 5 minutes for Q&A. All members of your team should be identified in the title page of your slide set, and be introduced at the start of the presentation (if yours was a team project).
