Outdoor Transmission (115 kV through 230 kV)

For Line and Cable Switching

SPECIFICATIONS
Conditions of Sale STANDARD: Sellers standard conditions of sale set
forth in Price Sheet 150 apply, except as modied under SPECIAL WARRANTY PROVISIONS and WARRANTY QUALIFICATIONS on page 2. EXCLUSIONS: Line-Rupters do not include the services of an S&C field service specialist for checkout of the LineRupter. Line-Rupters do not include an S&C Manual Geared Operating Handle or an S&C Switch OperatorType LS-2. The operating handle or the switch operator, as applicable, must be ordered separately. Line-Rupters do not include connectors. Various connectors are available, as listed in the table on page 3. Specify quantity and catalog number of connectors desired. Line-Rupters cannot be furnished with shunt-trip device. Mounting pedestals and anchor bolts, if furnished, are not included and must be ordered separately. For catalog numbers of mounting pedestals and anchor bolts, see the table on page 7. SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS: When Line-Rupters are to be provided with special connectors (including all expansion, compression, and multi-conductor types), consult the nearest S&C Sales Ofce for availability. The standard insulator color is gray (Munsell Number 5 BG 7.0/0.4). Line-Rupters can be supplied less insulators; add sufx -Z1 to the catalog number. Line-Rupters of a given voltage rating can be provided with insulators of the next lower voltage ratingadd sufx -Z2 to the catalog number, or next higherd voltage ratingadd sufx -Z3 to the catalog number. In instances where insulators of the next lower or next higher voltage rating have different bolt-circle dimensions, adapters are required; consult the nearest S&C Sales Ofce for availability. Further, in instances where other than standard station post insulators (as normally furnished) are to be used, consult the nearest S&C Sales Ofce regarding the suitability of such insulators.
d Except Line-Rupters rated 161 kV or 230 kV.

SPECIAL TO THIS PRODUCT:

SPECIFICATION NOTE: The S&C Line-Rupter employs an in-series circuit-breaking interrupter and circuitmaking and isolating disconnect, making it especially suited for line and cable switching; specifically, load splitting (parallel or loop switching), load dropping, and line and cable dropping. Line-Rupter is capable of closing, carrying, and interrupting load currents and parallel or loop currents, as well as line- and cable-charging current. Line-Rupters utilize the time-proven reliability of the S&C Circuit-Switchers brain and in-series interrupter, combined in a compact, economical, minimal-maintenance switching package. Line-Rupter interrupters are economically tailored for specic applications by employing the precise number of interrupting gaps required. Line-Rupters are available in the Three-Pole VerticalBreak Style and are intended for upright mounting on a structure, or upright mounting on S&C Mounting Pedestals or pedestals furnished by the user. Line-Rupters may be manually operated using an S&C Manual Geared Operating Handle (see page 6) or, alternately, they may be power operated using an S&C Switch OperatorType LS-2, as described in the Power Operation section on page 2. For manually operated Line-Rupters, the degree of simultaneity of opening and closing of the three poleunits depends on the proper installation and adjustment of the operating mechanismas well as on the speed of cranking at the operating handleand must be considered in establishing ground-relay settings. INCLUSIONS: Line-Rupters include three pole-units and the appropriate set of vertical and interphase operating pipes and couplings.

POWER OPERATION: Remote supervisory control may be provided for Line-Rupters by the addition of an S&C Switch OperatorType LS-2. This operator is expressly recommended for application with Line-Rupters. Refer to S&C Specication Bulletin 753-31 for details on Type LS-2 Switch Operators. SEISMIC WITHSTAND CAPABILITY: S&C Line-Rupters, when installed with the recommended S&C Mounting Pedestals and anchor bolts (see table on page 7), are capable of withstanding seismic loading of 0.2 g ground acceleration in any direction, as well as performing as intended during such loading and afterward. Higher seismic withstand capabilities can be furnished on special application; refer to the nearest S&C Sales Ofce. SHIPMENTS: Line-Rupters are shipped with insulators packed separately. SPECIAL WARRANTY PROVISIONS: The standard warranty contained in sellers standard conditions of sale, as set forth in Price Sheet 150, applies to S&C Line-Rupters and accessories and associated switch operators, except that the first paragraph of said warranty is replaced by the following: (1) General: Seller warrants to purchaser for a period of 5 years from the date of shipment that the equipment delivered will be of the kind and quality specified in the contract description and will be free of defects of workmanship and material. Should any failure to conform to this warranty appear under proper and normal use within five years after the date of shipment the seller agrees, upon prompt notification thereof and confirmation that the equipment has been stored, installed, operated, inspected, and maintained in

accordance with recommendations of the seller and standard industry practice, to correct the nonconformity either by repairing any damaged or defective parts of the equipment or (at sellers option) by shipment of necessary replacement parts. Replacement parts provided by seller under the warranty of the original equipment will be covered by the original-equipment warranty for its duration. Replacement parts purchased separately will be covered by the warranty contained in sellers standard conditions of sale, as set forth in Price Sheet 150. WARRANTY QUALIFICATIONS: Warranty of LineRupters is contingent upon the following: 1. Installation and adjustment of Line-Rupters in accordance with S&Cs applicable erection drawings, instruction sheets, and wiring diagrams; and 2. Conformance with the inspection recommendations dened in S&C Data Sheet 752-90.
